Jeannette Ruth Zerr, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2019 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Yorkton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. Jeannette was born on May 25, 1930 in the Beresina District, northeast of Churchbridge, SK to Rudolf and Lena (nee Adam) Busch. Her younger sister, Marlene was born seven years later. Growing up as the eldest of two sisters with no brothers, she helped with farm chores as there was a lot of work to be done, regardless of gender. She attended Beresina School and Church which was located 2 miles west of their farm. In the late 40’s, she met Robert Walter Zerr. They were married on February 21, 1950. They began farming on the farm that Robert grew up on northeast of Langenburg. Jeannette and Robert were blessed with four wonderful children: Margaret, David, Douglas and Robert Jr. Throughout the years on the farm, she enjoyed having a large garden and flower beds. Jeannette and Bob farmed actively until 1980 when they moved to town. Later on, Jeannette developed her artistic skills and loved ceramics and painting. As their family grew older, Jeannette and Bob began to travel, taking trips to see relatives in Germany. They visited Hawaii, Alaska, the Rose Bowl Parade, the Maritimes, and eventually spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona which they loved to do and met many new friends. Because Jeannette was born and raised Lutheran and Robert was Catholic, Jeannette decided to join the Roman Catholic faith in the 1990’s because it was important to her to be buried next to her husband in the Catholic cemetery.
Jeannette is survived by her sister Marlene Fowler (Dave), her children Margaret Simard (Alfred), David Zerr (Maureen), Doug Zerr, and Robert Zerr (Patricia), grandchildren Tricia Munro (Jonathan), Shannon O’Farrell (Sean), Geoff Zerr (Candace), Kaliegh, Matthew, Emily, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Noah, and Tanner Zerr, great-grandchildren Keegan, Mackenzie, and Mariah Munro, Violet, and Jasmine O’Farrell. Jeannette is predeceased by her parents Rudolf and Lena Busch, and her husband of 64 years, Robert Zerr.
A funeral service is taking place on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Langenburg, SK. Jeannette will be interred in the St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery beside her husband, Robert. Donations can be made to Langenburg Centennial Care Home or Yorkton Regional Hospital- Palliative Care Unit.
