It is with sadness that we announce that Dad has left us in this life to be with Mom. Dad was born on the family farm near Inglis in the RM of Boulton, Mb. He was baptized and confirmed Lutheran at Bethany Lutheran Church in Inglis, Manitoba. In later years his church families included Bethany, St. Peters (Winnipeg) and Selkirk Lutheran Church.
Dad spent many years farming the land he grew up on near Inglis, Manitoba. He met Alma Bauer in the neighboring community of Shevlin. They were married at St John’s Lutheran Church on June 9, 1950 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2015. They started their life together on the family farm near Inglis where they raised 4 of their 5 children. In 1963 Dad sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg where their youngest son was born in 1970. Dad worked as a carpenter building houses in Winnipeg but found his calling with Manitoba Hydro where he enjoyed working as a carpenter and equipment operator until his retirement in 1986. Mom and Dad spent their retirement years doing some of the travelling they enjoyed so much. Dad even managed a trip to Germany where he visited some of Martin Luther’s homeland. Dad’s other loves included gardening, carpentry, bicycles and helping others. Dad was well known by all of the neighbourhood children for fixing their broken toys and bikes and sending them on their way with a candy. Dad spent his last few years in the care of the wonderful staff at Tudor House PCH in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Alma (Bauer) in 2015, his brothers, Emil and Joe, sisters Elizabeth, Martha, Margaret, Bertha and Anne.
He is survived by one sister, Alma Zamzow and one sister-in-law, Pearl (Bauer) Weir. He will be sadly missed by his 5 children Marion (Gordon) Olafson, Janet (Fred) Johnson, Ron (Jeanne) Zimmer, Don (Elaine) Zimmer and Bruce (Laurie) Zimmer. Dad and Mom had 7 grandchildren; Krishanda, Arianna, Earl, Scott, Cameron, Travis, Pam; and 5 great grandchildren, Yoenne, Isis, Janey, Braiden, and Alexis. Numerous nieces and nephews will always remember Dad as a favourite uncle.
