David Pizzey Obituary

John “David” Pizzey was born May 31st, 1944 in Russell, MB.  The son of Joe and Jean Pizzey of Binscarth, David was raised on the family farm and attended the local Gambler School and Binscarth High School. At an early age David took an active interest in the seed grain operation, working alongside his Dad. In 1963 he  acquired his diploma in Agriculture and in 1967 his degree in Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. In due time, Inland Seed Corp. became a well established business, now involving the 4th generation of family.

At the age of 15, David made a heart-choice to serve God and this decision has brought him direction, joy and comfort in the years that have followed.

On June 7th, 1966 David married Betty Martens of Portage la Prairie, MB and they settled on the farm at Binscarth, where they raised their family of two sons and two daughters.

David had wrestled with health issues for many years and so, after his 66 years of “commitment to the soil”, he and Betty decided to explore semi-retirement. In 2010 they moved to Canmore, AB, where they have enjoyed getting acquainted with a circle of new friends and spending time with their family that reside in Alberta.

David still loved going home to the farm in the spring and fall and helped as long as he could. He valued the time in Manitoba with family and friends. In addition to farming and clearing land, David loved travelling, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

With continued failing health, David was recently admitted to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary and on Sunday, March 31st he passed away peacefully.

David was predeceased by his baby brother Charlie in 1946; his mother Jean Pizzey (nee White) in 2000 and his father Joe Pizzey in 2001.

David leaves with loving memories, his wife of 52 years, Betty Pizzey of Canmore AB; 2 sons, Trevor (& Holly) Pizzey of Calgary, and their children Keaton & McKenna, and Tim (& Adele) Pizzey of Binscarth, and their children Logan, Amy (& Vaun) Genik, Austin, Ashlyn & Benson; 2 daughters, Lora Jane (& Justin) Collyer of Calgary and their children Janay & David, and Kirsten (& Bryan) Hartin of Okotoks and their children Taye & Jada; brothers-in-law Bob Martens, Ed (& Helen) Martens; sister-in-law Lynda (& Cliff) Calverley; nieces and nephews, cousins in Canada and Northern Ireland, neighbours and many friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
