Jean Laskowski

Jean (Jennie) Laskowski (Nee Goletz) was born September 20, 1929 and passed away peacefully on October 17, 2019 and the age of 90.

Jean was born to Peter and Annie Goletz the third youngest of 13 children.  She grew up on a farm near Onanole/Whirlpool area which is located near Clear Lake.  She started school in Whirlpool at the age of 9 and remained in school until she was 14.  That summer she started her job at the Wigwam restaurant in downtown Clear Lake and during the winter she worked at the Erickson Hotel.  She later went to Portage La Prairie to stay with her sister Rosie and work at the sewing factory.  In 1948 she moved back to the Birdtail/Ruthenia area to help her mother and brothers farm.  This is where she met the love of her life; Walter Laskowski.

Walter and Jean were married on June 2, 1949.  They resided and farmed in the Birdtail/Ruthenia area for 18 years.  They raised 3 children; Marie, Mervin and Debby.  She lost the love of her life in 1997.

In 1967 they moved off the farm to Russell.  She started working at the Russell and District Hospital where she was employed as the head cook for 21 years. 

Jean moved into the care home in Russell in 2017.

She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  She had a soft spot for all of her grandchildren and upon retiring took over babysitting duties for her 3 youngest grandchildren. She was always busy.  She took great pride in her yard and her flowers, always making sure that it looked perfect.  She also loved to dance, go walking with her ‘walking friends’ and coffee every Tuesday afternoon.  Her faith was very important to her.  She rarely missed a service and she took immense pride in cleaning and looking after the flowers at the church. 

Jean is predeceased by her parents, 12 siblings, husband Walter, grandson Gerald and her son-in-law Tom.  She will be greatly missed by her 3 children Marie, Mervin and Debby; grandchildren Randy (Jenn), Michael (Colleen), Michelle, Kerri (Mark), Chadd and Dylan (Stephanie); and her great grandchildren Victoria, Jakob, Nicholas, Joshua, Morgan, Ty, Halle, Nash and Corbyn.
