It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Wife, and Baba.
Lorraine Eleanor Flundra, the fourth of five children to Jim and Sadie (Chescu) Kobluk was born May 23, 1946 at the Russell hospital. She went to school from grades 1-7 at Shell River School and grades 8-9 at Hudson School.
At age 15 she started to work at Reavie’s Pharmacy during the summer holidays and then full time at age 16. After having kids, she worked part time at the Russell Ladies Fashion Shoppe. Later in life, Lorraine became a health care aide at the Russell Personal Care Home until she retired.
Lorraine married Lawrence Flundra on July 17, 1965.
Lawrence and Lorraine enjoyed attending numerous dances in their early years of marriage. They have always had many close friends surround them and were attendants in many wedding parties and Godparents to numerous children.
They lived 44 years in a house built by Lawrence at 425 Manitoba Ave. in Russell. They were blessed with two sons during their 54 years of marriage.
Bryan Lawrence Glen was born in Russell on January 18, 1976 and Troy James John was born on August 1, 1978.
In 2018, Lorraine cheerfully and lovingly welcomed Bryan and Becky’s baby girl, Brynn Sadie. This little girl made Lorraine a Baba, a title that she waited years for and very much deserved.
Lorraine was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2018. She maintained a confident and positive attitude that she would be able to fight this disease. She had surgery in January 2019 and completed 4 rounds of chemo. She was so thankful for the care she received at the Russell Chemo Unit.
After hearing that her cancer had spread, she maintained a positive attitude and said several times that she has lived a good life and that there’s a lot younger people that have gone earlier than her. We often heard her say “it is what it is”.
Lorraine enjoyed cleaning, cooking, spending time at the Flundraosa, gardening, garage sales, and visiting.
Her garden was huge and full of vegetables and flowers, especially lilies. She would cut and clean fresh vegetables from her garden and deliver them to friends, family and neighbours. This June, her and Lawrence planted 120 hills of potatoes and 40 tomato plants. But if you wanted raspberries, you had to come pick them yourself. The lawn never had a leaf on it in the fall because she’d be out raking 2-3 times a day. She always spoke of how much she loved doing the outdoor chores on the farm with her dad when she was young.
Lorraine was happiest at her kitchen sink while friends and family ate and told stories at the kitchen table.
Left to mourn Lorraine are: husband Lawrence; her sons Bryan (Becky), and Troy; granddaughter Brynn; sisters Mary (Richard) Hickling, and Doreen McFarlane; brothers Steve Kobluk, and Donnie (Liz) Kobluk; brothers-in-law Steve (Ann) Flundra, Albert (Tillie) Flundra; sisters in law Merlin (Dan) Vewchar, and Charlotte Flundra; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Sadie Kobluk; sisters-in-law Joan Kobluk, Mary Kozachuk; brothers-in-law Norm McFarlane, Martin Flundra, and Victor Kozachuk.
