Wanda Mae Ivey, age 91, peacefully passed away on January 7, 2020.
She was born March 27, 1928 in Foxwarren to Campbell and Ella Bamford. She married her loving husband, Russ Ivey, on October 6, 1951. Russ preceded her death in 1995.
Wanda passionately devoted herself to her career as a teacher. She went to grade school in Foxwarren, and continued studies in Winnipeg at the Manitoba Normal School. She achieved her Bachelor of Education degree at the age of 49, graduating in 1977. Her first teaching position was in Eden, where she met and fell in love with Russ.
Wanda and Russ had three children: Marilyn, Duane and Glenis and eventually settled in Binscarth.
Wanda continued her teaching career at the Binscarth School and later began working at Major Pratt School in Russell, until she retired in 1985.
She loved to go to work each day, especially during the latter years in Russell as a special education teacher. She joyfully dedicated herself to the challenge of giving each of her students a fulfilling and fun educational experience. Wanda was an active and very proud member of the Binscarth community.
She is survived by her three children Marilyn Foreman, Duane (Doreen) Ivey and Glenis (Garth) Dow: brother Delmar (Iris) Bamford, sister Velma Clayton and brother Bob Bamford. She is also lovingly mourned by seven grandchildren; Adrienne (Matt) McNish, Jocelyn (Brett) Williams, Heather Foreman, Travis Ivey, Shannon Ivey, Carly Dow and Adam Dow; four great-grandchildren: Alexa McNish, Brody McNish, Brynn Williams, and Cole Williams; and, many cherished nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our most sincere gratitude to Dr. Pieterse, the nursing and recreational staff at the Russell Personal Care Home for their kindness and the heartwarming care that Wanda received while she was a resident there.
If desired, donations can be made to the Binscarth Park and Pool or Special Olympics Manitoba. A graveside memorial will be held at the Binscarth cemetery at a later date.
