Alvin was born on June 7, 1933 near Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, second son to Ernie and Ivy Kingdon.
Alvin began school in the Crosby District, moved to the Jellico School District when his family relocated near Binscarth. He then completed 4 years at Binscarth School. It was in Binscarth, later, that he met the love of his life, Margaret Crerar. They were married on October 4, 1956 and were lifelong partners for 68 years. They were parents to two children, Cheryl and Mark.
During his life he had several professions but his love for the land and the valley never wavered. He obtained journeyman status in Plumbing and Heating and licensed Gas Fitter. However, it was the involvement with horses that grew to be his livelihood for many years. In 1982 he began to work for Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service.
Alvin had many interests. He was a 4 – H member and then later a leader. He was the band leader for the Binscarth Band and became a member of the Russell Elks Band, a Charter member of the Binscarth Lions. He served on many boards in many capacities for Arabian Horse Associations. Alvin loved sports – especially hockey, refereeing and coaching. He loved music and dancing. He and Margaret attended music festivals and events and especially enjoyed the nearby local music “jams”.
Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Ernie and Ivy, his brother Vernon and his sister Beryl. He was also predeceased by his son Mark.
He leaves to mourn and miss him, his wife of 68 years, Margaret, his daughter Cheryl (David), grandchildren Sara (Jared) and Nic (Chelsea), and great grandchildren Cruz, Croix, Matti, and Arlo, his brothers Harvey (Colleen) and Glen (Janice), sister-in-law Marlene (Ron) and family, very special friends Steve and Barry, and his extended family and friends.
