Arla Florence Margaret Hande (nee Patterson) of Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home passed away June 28, 2024 at the age of 84 years.
Arla was born November 14, 1939 in Shellmouth Manitoba. As the eldest of six children born to Forrest and Margaret Patterson (nee Nerbas), she was a huge help to her younger siblings in the home. Their family lived in numerous locations across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Arla married Allan Hande on September 8, 1957 and they resided on their family farm north of Marchwell Saskatchewan. Arla took Adult Confirmation and became a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Marchwell. In 1974, they moved with their family to Wadena Saskatchewan for two years. From there they moved their family to Yorkton.
Arla loved gardening and canned fruits and vegetables for her family. Her real passion and talent was for sewing. She sewed clothes for herself and her family. She even made bridesmaid dresses and Marlene’s wedding gown. The love of sewing never left her. Even as she sat in the care home, her hands would always be lining up the edges of her blanket - preparing to sew them together.
Arla loved music. She loved to listen to records and sing along. Arla enjoyed singing in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church for many years. She had a strong faith in God and believed in the power of prayer. She was active in the church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She sewed diapers for LWML Layettes for many years. Arla enjoyed coloring, drawing, and even tried her hand at painting pictures.
She was predeceased by her husband Allan; her son Calvin, her parents, her brother Royce, mother and father in-law Henry and Lillian Hande, numerous brother and sister in-laws, her nephews Dean and Robin, and niece Kimberly.
She leaves to mourn: her children Carla (Rob), Marlene (Duane), Melvin, and daughter-in-law Sandy. Her grandchildren Malcolm, Amanda (Adrian), Preston, Shelbey (Jeff), Mark (Erin), Keith (Nicole), Blair (Pamela), Kyle (Melainie), Susan (Nathan), Kirk (Chelsea), Kristopher (Riti) and 18 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters Fern, Heather, Jean (Ralph), and Pamela, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
