Arthur Johnson Obituary

Arthur Johnson was born April 15, 1937, on the farm near Churchbridge where he lived all his life.  He was the third eldest son of Stefan and Jorunn Johnson. He was baptized May 16, 1937, at Concordia Lutheran church and confirmed into the Lutheran faith there on August 19, 1951.

When Arthur was only 7 years old his father passed away, and from then on he shouldered much responsibility helping his mother and older brother Leo run the farm. He attended Churchbridge school, however, education was shortened by having to help with the farm.

When electrification came to the farms in the area, Art was able to wire the farm buildings.  In his early 20s, Art purchased a welder and taught himself welding skills enabling him to repair or build farm equipment. This progressed over the years to being able to build bulldozers for many farmers plus other equipment. Always a farmer at heart, he loved working the land and raising cattle.

In the 1980’s, he decided to learn carpentry skills by working for Sveinbjornson construction company. This led to him building several houses on his own plus countless woodworking projects. The most challenging but rewarding building project was being foreman of the construction of the new sanctuary for Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 1963 he married Alice Schrader and together they worked the farm. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Kathy, Annette, and Karen. Art’s faith in God was the foundation of his life and was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving many years on various boards and teaching Sunday school. An outgoing, people loving, generous person, he loved to sit down with someone and chat over a cup of coffee.

Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Jorunn Johnson; brothers Olafur (in infancy), Leo, and Donald; sisters-in-law Mildred and Leona Johnson; brother-in-law Orlin Schrader; father and mother -in-law Paul and Minnie Schrader.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his wife of 60 years Alice; daughters Kathy (Jim) Gorentz, Annette (Marty) Bronsch, Karen (Craig) Stevenson; his grandchildren Ben Bronsch, Adam (Lorraine) Bronsch, Rachel (Aaron) Bronsch, and Liam Stevenson; his great-grandsons Nova Pond and Rhys Backmann; sister Gwen (Lloyd) Mann; brothers-in -law Harold Schrader and Maynard (Mireya ) Nerbas . He will be deeply missed by many other relatives and countless friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
