Betty Andres Obituary

Elsie “Betty” Andres (nee Doering) was born July 24, 1933 at Deepdale, MB at her parents Herbert & Elizabeth Doering (nee Schneider) farm home (SW13 27 29 W1 Shell River Municipality, MB). She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shelvin, MB. Betty attended school to grade eight at Deepdale and Roblin, MB.  In 1946 the family moved to Roblin, when Walter, the oldest son, got married and took over the farm. Betty was always Grandma Doering’s helper. She cared for her youngest brother Calvin and was always willing to iron her brother Elmer’s pants whenever he asked.

Betty met Edwin Andres and they married on July 2, 1952 at the Shevlin Church. Mom told the story that Edwin Haberstock and Irene Rathgeber were going to go with them on their honeymoon to Clear Lake, MB and then to Minot, ND but Irene couldn’t go, so Edwin Haberstock still went with them. Betty and Edwin lived on the Andres Farm North of MacNutt with Edwin’s parents, Adam and Elizabeth. Edwin & Betty were blessed with two children, their son Delwin Sheldon born in 1954 and Katherine Joan born in 1956. Elizabeth moved off the farm after Adam passed away in 1957.

Betty and Edwin grain farmed, raised cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens. Betty always kept a large garden, loved to cook, bake, mend and clean. Betty would also drive the school bus when Edwin was busy on the farm. They were both community minded and Betty was a member of the MacNutt Ladies Service Club. The church was always an important part of their life. Betty and Edwin were members of MacNutt Christ Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid.

Edwin passed away in 1987, in 1994 Betty married Bert Hassler and shortly after moved to Saskatoon. Betty enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, travelling to BC, North West Territories and the Maritimes. In 2007 Betty moved back to Langenburg, where she enjoyed being closer to Del, Jayne, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and old and new friends. Betty kept busy gardening, cooking, baking, mending for family and friends. In 2022 Betty moved to Southview Senior Complex in Langenburg. December 2023 she moved to Kamsack Care Home because of decreased mobility, and then April 2024 moved to the Langenburg Care Home where she passed on August 30, 2025 at 10:30 p.m.

Betty was predeceased by her granddaughter, Christine Andres in 1974, her husband Edwin Andres in 1987, son Del (Delwin) Andres in 2021, brothers Walter (Frieda) Doering, Lawrence (Doreen) Doering, Arthur (Verna) Doering, Oscar (Ruth) Doering, Elmer (Neta) Deering, sister Frieda (Adolf) Schmollinger, brother-in-law Phil Ochosky, sisters-in-law Rosella (Ardo) Kendel, Norma (Glen) Taylor.
