Betty was born in Hamiota on November 4, 1921, the seventh child of Tom and Evelyn Bailey. She was raised on the farm at Decker, attended Orrwold church as a child, and went to school in Decker.
While working at the general store in Decker she met Ralph Cochrane, who worked at the local garage. They were married December 28, 1940 at the family farm.
Following Ralphs World War II service, they settled in Birtle where they opened an electrical business, raised their family and were active in the community and the United Church. Betty led Mission Band and was a member of the United Church Women (UCW) receiving a life membership which she cherished. Betty worked at Pioneer Lodge when it opened in 1968 until 1980, in charge of maintenance and meals, working tirelessly to make it a comfortable home for its residents. She was a member of the Pioneer Auxiliary helping to organize teas, entertainment, and activities.
Betty and Ralph moved from their home to Lions Manor where she continued to reside after Ralphs passing in 1998, until moving to the Sunnyside Manor in 2013. In later years unable to read, knit and do crosswords due to the loss of her eyesight, she enjoyed audio books, friends, and family visits and phone calls.
