Bruce L. Sobkow of Brandon, MB. passed away on August 25, 2022 at the age of 87 years.
Bruce was born to Fred and Eva Sobkow in Calder, SK. He married Elaine Haas on July 28, 1962. They resided on the family farm until 1971 when they left for Bruce to begin his career in the grain industry. Bruce’s career took his family to many locations across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In 2002, Bruce retired as the Senior Vice-President for James Richardson International. He remained on the Board of Directors until 2005.
Bruce and Elaine enjoyed their retirement years in Brandon and at their cottage in Madge Lake, SK. Bruce’s three passions in life were his family, his career, and sports. Bruce played sports well into his 50’s. He was well-known for his fastball pitching. He also loved watching and coaching his children and grandchildren in their activities.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents Fred and Eva, in-laws Ed and Kate Haas, brothers-in-law Howard Mack, Mervin Haas, Vince Meier, and Terry Haas; sisters-in-law Renata Mack and Bev Haas, and nephews Tim Mack and Richard Haas.
Bruce is survived by his wife Elaine, children Val (Rob) Thompson, Darcy (Shawna) Sobkow, Darrell (Cory) Sobkow, Darwin (Heike) Sobkow and Cindy Sobkow, and grandchildren Derek Sobkow, Danica (Michael) Fortin, Cody Thompson, Dasek Sobkow, Hannah Sobkow, Dray Sobkow, Marek Sobkow, and Paxton Sobkow.
Bruce is also survived by his sisters Mary Sobkow and Julia McLean, and sisters-in-law Orma (Harold) Assman, Jane Meier, Muriel Haas and brother-in-law Art (Marian) Haas.
Pallbearers are all of Bruce’s grandchildren. Bruce considers all of his friends and family as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to say a special "thank you" to Daughter on Call for their care and kindness.
