Daryl Kendell Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Marg, Jesse, Christopher, Morgan and Aidan say goodbye to Daryl, Dad and Grandpa.

Daryl was born in Russell Hospital on November 9, 1948, the only child of Alvina (Kendel) and George Kendell. He was baptized in his home on December 5, 1948.

Daryl was raised on and remained there his entire life on the south east quarter section, township 23, range 30 west of 1 in the R.M. of Churchbridge. His love for the farm and its peacefulness was where he was the happiest.

Being an only child Daryl developed a great imagination and spent much of his time playing with the cats and dog Rex. His mother used to say, “if you couldn’t find Daryl out in the farmyard, you just had to call his dog Rex and the dog and Daryl would appear.”

Daryl attended school in Flower Valley and later in Langenburg. Daryl chose to work alongside his Dad on the farm and the two worked together until his Dad’s 90th year. He continued to grain farm and raise cattle until a few years ago when he rented the land out, but he still kept cattle until the time of his death. Daryl had such a creative ability. He could make beautiful things out of raw materials. He inherited that ability from his mom.

Daryl married Marguerite Patterson on August 11, 1979. They raised two boys, Jesse and Christopher and went on to celebrate the birth of their granddaughter Morgan and grandson Aidan. Daryl and his family had a great life on the farm. They worked hard but were also able to have a lot of fun. During the boys’ early years, they would be travelling around the country with hockey, curling and badminton. Summer weekends were often spent camping at different lakes, water skiing or fishing. Some wonderful trips by the family were also enjoyed and one of the highlights was a trip to Disneyland. Somehow this magical place brings out the child in you. It seemed all too soon the boys grew up, graduated and left home. They continued to work on the farm and enjoy their leisure time as they wished. A big part of their summers were spent camping at the lake but they also enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the USA.

Daryl leaves to mourn his wife Marguerite, son Jesse, grandchildren Morgan and Aidan, and son Christopher, brother-in-law Bob Patterson and wife Rhona, Godmother Aunt Katie Halwas, Aunt Louise Giesbrecht and Aunt Pearl Kendel, as well as numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by parents Alvina and George Kendell, parents-in-law Roberta and Nesbit Patterson as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
