Deana Haney Obituary

Deana Haney was born March 8, 1925 to Joe and Flora Fleury in the RM of Ellice in our ancestral home of China Town.

Deana married Thomas Haney in 1948 and raised 12 children. Most of her life was consumed by taking care of her children, and our grandfather, who was sick most of his life. Thomas Haney passed away at the young age of 58 years old, so our mother had to be mother and father since 1982. She drove a school bus for many years and treated all the kids like her own. When not working in the garden or raising chickens, pigs and a few cows in China Town, she enjoyed Bingo and following her children in sports, then it was the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Deana was a true sports fan and enjoyed every minute of it.

She had 31 grandchildren and 28 and 3 on the way great grandchildren. She  received her 25-year pin as a foster mother raising many foster children which  included taking care of Justine Ledoux. Our mother’s door was always open even though we never had much but you never left her home hungry.

Our mother was fluent in 3 languages, French, English and the michif language. She was very proud of her michif culture and heritage and we continue that legacy. Deana was a tough loving mother and also a very religious woman. And you all know Deana, always driving the back roads, saying her Rosery. Her Catholic faith helped her greatly through difficult times.

Deana was always involved in the MMF Fort Ellice Local Ladies Auxiliary. We could literally write a book on her life, but the conclusion would be the same…. A very good wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, great aunt and great great aunt.

Deana died peacefully at the PCH in Birtle on March 10, 2019 with her family by her side.

Deana is predeceased by her parents Flora and Joe Fleury, brother Ernest (Theresa) Fleury, sister Rita Brazeau, son Wayne Haney, brother-in-law Joe Haney, sister-in-law Eileen (Claus) Swirtzel, sister-in-law Mona (Charlie) Hayden, sister-in-law Marie Haney, brother-in-law Bernie Thiell and brother-in-law Roy McMaster.

Deana leaves to mourn her loss Clarence (Ann), Ryan (Amanda), Neil (Connie), Christopher (Alissa), Mervin (Anita), Melinda, Mervin Jr. (Jodi), daughter-in-law Therese, Dale (Jen), Cindy (Dusty), Nicole (Cory), Thomas, Carl (Diane), Amber, Valerie (Mike), Kerri, Ryan, Norma (Martin),  Sarah (Mark), Adam (Tracy), Candace (Charles), Brodie (Kayleen), Marion (Blair), Regan (Chas), Raelyn (Jon), Blair Jr. (Caroline), Terry, David (JoAnn), Kelly (Ryan), Jeffrey, Larry (Michelle), Dylan, Sydney, Sharon (Rene), Christian, Rachelle, Noah, Eric, Karen (Charlie), Julien (Danielle), Stephane, Damien, Hannah, 28 great grandchildren, sisters Betty Morin, Therese Thiell, Lorraine (Bob) Parker, Clara McMaster, brothers Rene (June) Fleury, Norman (Ruth) Fleury, all their families and many nieces and nephews.
