Dennis Dedels Obituary

Dennis Dedels born November 29,  1942   passed away peacefully on September 29th, 2024 at St. Anthony’s hospital in Esterhazy with family by his side.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Fred and Edna Dedels, brother Mervin and first grandchild Mitchell.
Left to carry his memory are his wife Debbie, sons Kevin Dedels, Brian Dedels, Lynn (Raquel)Sveinbjornson, Scott (Stacey) Sveinbjornson, and daughter Colleen (jim) La Rocque, sister Margorie Kellough, brothers Gary and Ed Dedels, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters in laws Heather Sveinbjornson and Elaine Kaeding, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis felt the pull to the road at a young age following in his father’s footsteps. After proving himself he became a Union Milk driver along with his dad at the age of 18. Eventually he purchased his own truck and went into business for himself in Alberta.
He competed in numerous truck rodeos and worked hard to try to outdo his dad’s record of wins. In 1963 he married Marilyn Saunders and they had two sons Kevin and Brian. During this time they opened a Country Variety Store in Salmon Arm, which they ran until 1979, when they moved to Churchbridge. Dennis then worked for Kleysen Transport hauling salt from IMC to North Gate, North Dakota.
On October 24, 1986, he married Debbie Sveinbjornson and took on 3 young kids providing for them. He made a valiant effort to learn to farm, but it didn’t take, and in 1987 they made the decision to move in a completely different direction and turned the farm into a 9 hole golf course. With limited budget and a lot of very hard work from family and friends the dream became a reality and the course opened in June 1989.
During this time Dennis was employed with Silver Dollar, now Action Express out of Regina. After a couple years Debbie got her class 1A and joined him on the road in the winter months. This went well until one day Deb pushed too hard on a piece of cargo and sent him flying off the trailer resulting in a broken hip! In 2002 he suffered a serious aneurysm on the road and was given a 15% chance of survival. A week later he was home and the cat of 27 lives kept moving forward.
Over the years he has driven for numerous companies, Union Milk, Cheyenne, Night, Time Sensitive, Silver Dollar, Kleysen, Action Express and rode along when Deb ran for Pizzeys to the States.
This is a man who never shied away from hard work, a challenge or a chance to invent something to make the work easier. He was a tough old bugger having been through a truck accident in the mountains, being run over by a heard of horses, breaking his back, getting smacked in the mouth with watering fire hose losing 3 teeth, having your wife pitch you off a semi-trailer, and being run over by a greens spiker, losing a couple digits and nearly his life.
The last couple years have been a difficult, painful struggle. Your family did everything they could to keep you home as you wished so you could enjoy the fresh air, mutilate the tomato plants, paint bird houses, watch the flowers grow, and live life as you wanted, on your terms. We will miss you, yet understand that your wish to be pain free has now been granted….Be free, and we will see you on the other side….10-4
The family wish to thank the Langenburg Home Care Staff and Dr. Azad who made Dennis’s wish to remain at home possible. Without you this never could have happened.
