Derek Harold Bezo

Derek Bezo of Roblin, Manitoba passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 87. He was surrounded and supported by the love of his family during his courageous battle with ALS.

On April 28, 1937, Derek was born in Russell, Manitoba to John and Annie Bezo (nee Klimack). He married Iris Halwas in 1958 at Inglis, Manitoba, where their lifelong bond was strengthened by their Christian faith. They raised three daughters, Gwen, Dawn and Jacquie in Inglis, Manitoba. Derek was the manager of the National Grain elevator for ten years, farmed for forty years, and was the Reeve of the RM of Boulton. He was an active member of the community and volunteered for various community projects.

Derek enjoyed various activities, such as camping, fishing, hunting, trapping, curling, golfing and wood carving. He loved the game of golf so much that he built his own Par 3 golf course in the valley adjacent to the family farm. Derek enjoyed travelling with friends and spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona where he continued to enjoy many games of golf. He shared many happy memories with friends while living in Inglis, Roblin and Yuma, whether playing card games, crib, billiards or sharing a laugh at the coffee shop. His many friends and family enjoyed his quick wit.

He is survived by his wife Iris, daughter Gwen Ferguson and Daryl Check (and their blended families), daughter Dawn and Joe Wishart, daughter Jacquie Bezo and Kent Waterfield, sister Arlla Bezo, nephew Brett Bezo (Vanessa), brother-in-law Richard (Florence) Halwas, brother-in-law Gerald (Sonja) Halwas, sister-in-law Linda (Gerald) Jendrasheske, sister-in-law Debbie (Fred) Dunn, aunt Ruth Hand, aunt Alice Klimack, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

Derek was predeceased by his parents John & Annie Bezo, brother Lloyd (Marj) Bezo, brother Allan Bezo, son-in-law Brock Ferguson, father-in-law Herman Halwas, mother-in-law Alvina Halwas, sister-in law Betty (Tom) Bauereiss, niece Darlene Jackson, niece Candace Bezo, and many other family and friends.
