Dorothy Viola Ireland

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ireland of Binscarth, Manitoba.

Dorothy passed away peacefully at the Birtle Transitional Care Home on May 7, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband Cedric Ireland; she lost her Dad (Alexander Skeoch) when she was only nine years old, her mom (Charolette Gage/Skeoch/Johnson), her siblings Gladys Skeoch White and her brother Howard Skeoch and half-brother Louis Johnson, as well as her daughters Shirley Wotton, Caroline Ireland, and Great-Grandson Jayden Wollny.

Dorothy was born on her parent’s farm in Russell Municipality on November 9, 1923 and married on the same farm to Cedric Ireland on November 19, 1942. They bought their own farm and raised five children: Robert, who married Beatrice Ducharme and had 7 children; Shirley married Ivan Wotton and had 4 children; Bertha married Gavin MacKinnon who had two children; Caroline Ireland who remained single and Sandra Birch who married Phlyp Birch and had no children.

Dorothy and Cedric retired and moved to Binscarth in 1978. To quote Mom “Didn’t go too far, eh?” Dorothy has resided at the Birtle Transitional Care Home for a little over two years. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, floor curling, reading her eBook and talking to family on her cellphone. She always shared her treats with her roommate and friends.

She loved life and was a very social person. Fridays were always saved for getting her hair done and playing bridge. She loved going to church, playing all card games, golf, curling, Banana Belt service group, and watching hockey (Jets) and Blue Bombers, and curling on TV.

She will be deeply missed by her children Robert, Bertha & Sandra; Grandchildren Bernice Haltermann (Kurt), Patricia Foster (Todd), Sheila Lee, Freda (Carl) Bauereiss, Pete (Tracy) Ireland, Tanya Ireland, Tammy McDonald, Judy Walker (Dwayne), Connie Killam (Greg), Karen Wotton, Wanda Dyck (Kevin), Lorraine Racine (Phillip) and Brenda LeForte (Shad); Great-Grandchildren Craig, Dustin & Crissy Haltermann, Tarin & Tate Foster, Sierra Deslauriers, Jack King, Pipper Lee, Kaitlyn, Jordon & Ethan Bauereiss, Hailey, Chloe & Cassidy Ireland, Keenan & Brennan Walker, Austin & Derick Labossiere, Dustin & Samantha Dyck, Christine, Gordon & James Racine, Dawson, Hunter & Xander LeForte, Faith Goodman, Iverson Dyck;     Great-Great-Grandchildren Isabella & Maverick Haltermann, Oaklynn Deslauriers, Emy & Payton Ducharme, Everett, Autumn & Bennett Racine, Isabelle Goodman; her half-sister Eileen Cruden and husband Chuck as well as half-sister Margaret Bowman and husband Hugh.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Honiball and all the staff at the Birtle Transitional Care Home for caring for Mom in her final years.
