Dorothy McLennan Obituary

Dorothy Mavis McLennan

September 1, 1934 - March 29th, 2024

Dorothy, at 89 years passed away at the Russell PCH after a short time there.

Dorothy was born at home in the Nelson house near Millwood to parents Walter and Agnes Ireland. She was the second youngest of 11 siblings. Dorothy went to Bavelaw school and later went to Binscarth to work as a telephone operator. On July 10th, 1952, she married Don McLennan and they lived and farmed west of Binscarth and raised their four children there. They enjoyed farming, camping, barbecues, curling and road trips. Dorothy belonged to the Rebekah's for quite a few years. In later years Dorothy and Don became the custodians of Binscarth school, a job they liked and took pride in.

Dorothy was a kind, selfless lady who had a never-ending supply of calm patience, always an ear for listening and hands for helping, she was open minded and never judged. She loved her life on the farm, and she loved her family. Time spent with her grand and great grandchildren were her happiest moments, she had a genuine, unconditional love for children and made time for all of them, which was amazing as combined there were 33 grand, great grand, and recently 2 great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy had a lot of talents, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and was amazing with any kind of crafts. She enjoyed baking, her buns and goulash were a family favorite. She loved being with family, bonfires, going for drives, old time music, Christmas shopping, watching baseball, curling and a good book. She preferred her coffee at home with family, always keeping up with what all the kids were doing. When Don passed away in 2009, she stayed on the farm for a couple of years then moved into Binscarth. She was a private person who minded her own business and expected the same from others. She disliked a fuss and preferred being in the background. Up until a year ago Dorothy led a healthy independent life. Her biggest worry was that she was going to be a burden to the family. She was just so humble and kind.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Don McLennan, great granddaughter Rilee McLennan. Her parents Walter and Agnes Ireland. Her siblings: Tommy, William, Lionel (Rosalie), Cedric (Dorothy), Walter (Mildred), Johnny, Daisie (Albert), Lily (Eddy), Bella (Maurice), Florence (Alec), brother in-law Pete Koshuba, and best friend Bella Robinson. She will be missed and remembered by her sister Rosina and sister in-law Alice. And her children:

A book would have to be written to immortalize a life so well lived, a good life. A life of love and appreciation, a pure and simple life. Family is what mattered most and each one of us will carry the memories of special moments.

We will all miss you so much, but we know you are happily fussing around your many kith and kin that you have been reunited with. So, we will sum up your life with your favorite saying "A little bit of this and a little bit of that."

A private family service will be held in the summer.

If friends so wish in lieu of flowers a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation can be made in Dorothy's name.

The family would like to thank everyone who sent condolences. Special thanks to Mark Moffit of Braendle Bruce Funeral home, you were a gem, and made all of us feel relaxed with your help and kindness.
