Obituary

Ed Russin was born on August 16, 1932, at the family home. Ed was the 4th child of John and Katherine Russin. He grew up in the Shellmouth district and attended Shellmouth School until the age of 15. He quit after that and worked on the family farm for the next 7 years.

In 1955 Ed started farming on his own, during this time Ed spent some of his time at sporting events and dances and there is where Ed met the love of his life, Gertie Haas. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1956.

Following their marriage, Ed and Gertie farmed in several locations in the area. In 1963 they bought the Flower Valley School and made their home in the Shellmouth valley.

Their family was started in 1957 when their first daughter Donna was born, Lila was born in 1958, Joan in 1959, and not getting a boy, they tried one more time, but along came "oops" another girl, Judy, born in 1962. But Ed loved her all the same.

Ed enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, bingo, square dancing, fishing, hunting and curling. Ed and Gertie did some traveling; they went to Island Lake on a fishing trip, to Florida with their family to spend Christmas with his granddaughter, Germany, Poland, and Minnesota to visit family.

In 1998 Ed and Gertie retired from farming and moved to Russell, where Ed took up gardening and picking raspberries, a good excuse to spend time with his beloved cats.

In May 2019 they decided to really retire and moved into the Park Manor. When dad first moved there he felt like he was living in a shoebox, but with time, eventually he was able to call it Home.

Ed is predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine Russin, in laws Frank and Magda Haas, Sister Sophie and brother in laws (Ken and Alvin), Brothers Murray and sister-in-law (Joey), Vic and sister in law (Marie). Brothers-in-law Lorne Kilkenny, Reinhold Haas, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Audie and Anita Zimmer, Son in Law Ron Cross, Niece Doreen Quibel and her son Jacoby.

Ed will be missed by his loving wife of 66 years Gertie, and his 4 daughters:

Donna (Friend Paul) and children Venessa (Joe), Zoe (John),

Lila (Zen) and children Edward (less), Cassie (Corey),

Joan (Craig) and children Jared (Sara) Kevin,

Ed and Gertie were also able to love many Great Grandchildren including, Jade and Jordan Sinness, Dayton and Emmitt Rocheleau, Croix Cruz and Mavrik Miller, and Charolette and Connor Surma.

He is also survived by a brother, John (Darlene) and Sister in laws Eva Haas, Myra Kilkenny (friend Gerald) and many Nieces, Nephews and friends.

You may be gone but never forgotten. You will always be close to our hearts. We are going to miss you, "Papa Achoo"!
