Eda Fieseler Obituary

Eda Fieseler passed away peacefully at the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home on January 19, 2020 at the age of 98 years.

Eda was born on December 16, 1921 in Langenburg, SK to August and Frances (Goetz) Mitschke.  She was the second youngest of 9 children and was raised on the family farm.  She had a happy childhood and carried fond memories throughout her life of her close-knit family and the challenges that they faced head-on as they built a humble life on the prairies through the hard years of the depression.  After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught school at both Hohenlohe country schools and, eventually, the Langenburg School.  In 1946, she married Arthur Fieseler and they welcomed their only child, Barbara, the following year.  They built a house on the Fieseler farm 3 miles north of town and carried on both families’ farming tradition until 1985 when they retired to town.

Driven by her deep faith and her love of teaching, Eda was very active in the community.  In particular, she made significant contributions to both St. Joseph’s Parish and the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home, serving several terms on parish council, delivering communion to those unable to attend, leading ecumenical services and spending countless hours visiting with and reading to residents of the care home.  In her retirement, she also volunteered as an English tutor, spending a great deal of time helping high school students, young adults and newly arrived immigrants to Canada.

Eda was a most loving and supportive grandmother.  She participated in every aspect of her grandchildren’s lives and eagerly did the same when her great grandchildren arrived.  Granny was absolutely adored by her family who will miss her dearly.

Eda is survived by her five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her brother, Ted.  She was predeceased by her dear husband, Arthur (1997) and her precious daughter, Barbara (2018).

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
