Edward Gensorek of Russell, Manitoba passed away on October 2, 2024 at the Russell Personal Care Home at the age of 93 years.
Ed was born on February 20, 1931 in the R.M. of Silver Creek to parents Peter and Annie Gensoriek. He had 2 brother, Bert & Nicholas and a sister Elizabeth. Ed married Margaret Walowetz on July 23, 1955 and had one son Ernest. They lived in Angusville until 1964 until they built a new home in Russell. Ed worked at Russell Redi-mix, then later drove school bus for Walchuk Bus Services and also worked with Terry Smyth doing carpentry. Dad loved to build things and fix anything. His happiest moment was when his son Ernest got married to Cathleen (Shuparsky) on August 11, 1990, and later with the birth of his granddaughters; Jacquie on September 1, 1992 and Janis on October 13, 1996.
Dad enjoyed fishing and won awards for largest pike. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them. He also loved spending time with his coffee buddies and always had a good joke to tell. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone. When his health started to fail, he moved to the Birtle Transitional Unit and then to the Russell Personal Care Home in May of 2024 where he resided until his passing.
Ed was predeceased by his parents Peter & Annie (Stavyshyn); brothers Nicholas & Bert; brother-in-law Pat Kjersem; niece Sandra; sister-in-law Ann; in-laws Alex and Ann Walowetz.
He is survived by wife Margaret of 69 years; son Ernest and wife Cathy; grandchildren Jacquie & Janis; sister Elizabeth; sister-in-law Marie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the Russell Personal Care Home, to the nurses and Doctors for the wonderful care during his stay there. As well thank you to everyone for the numerous phone calls and condolences.
