Edward Zimmer Obituary

With peaceful hearts our family announces the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Edward Zimmer.

Edward was the fourth child of ten born to Maria and Julius Zimmer on February 10, 1929. Edward grew up on the Zimmer family farm near Russell, Manitoba, spending countless hours working in the fields with his dad and brothers.

Edward married Elsie (Wagner) on February 25, 1955 in the St. John Lutheran Church in Shevlin. They moved to their small house on the farm together where they raised four boys Dennis (September 21, 1955), David (October 22, 1956), Howard (December 16, 1957) and Glen (January 18, 1959).

Edward started working for the Canadian National Railroad in 1959 seasonally while continuing to farm.  In 1989 he retired from the Canadian National Railroad. About 10 years after retirement Edward and Elsie decided to make the big move to town. While living in town Edward was often seen riding his bike around town or cruising around at about 20 km an hour.

In 2021 Edward and Elsie made their final move to the Russell Personal Care Home. Later that year in November Elsie passed. Edward resided at the PCH until he went home to be with Elsie and many of his siblings on May 7, 2024.

Edward is predeceased by his wife Elsie Zimmer, his parents Maria and Julius Zimmer, brother Bill and Eleanor Zimmer, brother Rudy and Verna Zimmer, brother Adolph and Anita Zimmer, brother Walter and Carol Zimmer, brother Herman and Ruth Zimmer, Sister Julia and Rudolph Nernberg, sister Elsie and Lewis Falkevitch, sister-in-law Elizabeth and Robert Zimmer, brother in-law Herbert Nernberg, brother in-law Wilfred Nernberg; in-laws Jack and Annie Wagner, sister in-law Hertha and Adolf Edel, and brother in-law John Wagner.

Edward leaves behind his four sons Dennis (Donna), David (Elaine), Howard (Kitty) and Glen (Laura). His grandchildren Colin (Marnie), Nara (Garth), Crystal (Clint), Patricia (Reggie), Paul (Leah), Jason, Timmy (Kelly), Jamie (Chelsea), Crystal and Kimberly. His great-grandchildren Austin (Hailey), Kieran (Heaven), Ethan (Kalandra), Brennan (Shayla), Taylor, Mikayla, Noah, Nico, Brayden, River, Hunter, Zaiden and Maxton. Great-Great Grandchildren Lilith and Allessa. His sisters Herta Nernberg and Annie Nernberg.
