Elaine Eleanor Hartung (nee Nabe) was born on April 14, 1933 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. She was the second oldest of seven children born to farm owners Frederick and Leah Nabe (nee Eisner).
Elaine was baptized and confirmed in Togo, SK. After she graduated from the Togo High School, she attended the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina as a trainee in nursing. In 1955, when Elaine became a Registered Nurse, she also received the Bedside Nursing Award, a tribute to her love and dedication to nursing.
After graduation, Elaine continued to work at the Grey Nuns Hospital, now known as the Pasqua Hospital, then later worked at the Langenburg Union Hospital for over 20 years. It was in Langenburg that she met the love of her life, Ruben Hartung. They were married on June 25, 1960. Elaine and Ruben were blessed with three children: Laurie, Bob and Jeff.
Elaine was a hard-working woman, nursing regular shifts at the Hospital, providing meals to her family, gardening and helping on the farm. She also made time for curling, knitting, golfing, bird-watching and spending time with her grandchildren. Elaine was an avid reader, always searching for knowledge. As a passionate Blue Jays fan, she looked forward to baseball season. Elaine was strong in her Christian Faith. Enjoying Sunday church service and visiting with friends was very important to her. She was a member of Gospel Vision and enjoyed being part of the Royal Purple. Helping anyone in need was her purpose in life.
Elaine passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 18, 2025 at the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Leah, husband Ruben, brothers George, Fred, Richard and Walter, as well as her nephew David Nabe. She leaves to mourn sons Bob and Jeff, daughter Laurie, grandsons Kody (Toni), Tyler and Matthew, granddaughter Stephinie (Cory), sister Elsie (Roy), brother Wayne, many nieces and nephews, as well as six great grandchildren.
