Frank Nicholas Horeczy, 100, of Russell Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 2nd at the Russell Personal Care Home.
Frank was born on November 22nd, 1923 to Nicholas and Annie Horeczy in Lemberg Saskatchewan. Frank completed grade 8, which was standard for the time. After leaving school Frank entered the working world.
Frank enlisted in the Armed Forces. This was towards the end of the Second World War and Frank was stationed in Dartmouth NS for training. Before he was deployed the war concluded and Frank left the Armed Forces.
Frank had a variety of jobs but ultimately his heart was set on farming. Around 1950 he had the opportunity to rent a farm near the community of Binscarth, Manitoba. It was here that Frank met the love of his life Dora Katcher. Through a chance encounter at the Binscarth Locker Plant Frank and Dora’s romance blossomed. Dora had been widowed and had 3 children Anna, David and Gerry. Frank and Dora courted for about a year and then in 1962 they wed.
Once married Frank and Dora purchased the farm and created a homestead for themselves. After many years on the farm they moved to the town of Binscarth in 1980. Frank then continued to farm for a short period of time until he retired. Frank had a passion for wood working and construction which included the building of their home in Binscarth. He also became the town handyman being called on by many organizations to do any carpentry repairs.
After living in Binscarth they relocated to Russell where they resided for the remainder of their years.
