Garnet Wood Obituary

Garnet Alexander Wood (Woody) of Birtle, MB passed away on January 2, 2022 at his home in the arms of his wife at the age of 66 years.

Garnet was born June 9, 1955 at Birtle Hospital, the youngest of 5 children of Arnold W. Wood and Georgina (Jean) G. (Stewart) Wood.

He attended school in Birtle, MB. He tried his hand at a couple of different jobs before starting work with the Department of Highways maintenance on April 23, 1976 and retired March 31, 2020 after 43 years. In May 2020 he started work with Rural Municipality of Riding Mountain West until fall. April 12, 2021 he started part time for the Prairie View Municipality until this fall.

Garnet grew up with and married his childhood sweetheart Brenda Lane and they were married August 19, 1978 and had 43 wonderful years together. On March 25, 1985 they were blessed with their son Daniel.

Garnet enjoyed operating plows and graders. He loved children and animals, camping and fishing, working in his garage, and he and Brenda going for drives and often taking a picnic lunch. Family was the most important to him and he enjoyed making others laugh.

Garnet was pre-deceased by his parents Arnold and Jean, and all of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by wife Brenda, son Daniel and grandchildren Skylar and Sierra and many other family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
