George Arthur Simms

The family of GEORGE ARTHUR SIMMS, formerly from Foxwarren, Manitoba, beloved husband of Evelyn Simms, sadly announce his passing on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Yorkton.  He was 97 years of age.

George was born on his parent’s homestead at Crawford Park, Manitoba.  George was the eldest son of Arthur and Edna Simms (Kelly) and had three brothers and two sisters.

In 1946, the family moved to Foxwarren, where he began farming with his father.

In 1953, he married Evelyn Breakey, and they raised five children together on the farm.

Known as a helpful neighbor, George took a leadership role on many community boards and was involved in all activities in the local rink. George was an avid horseman and a challenging competitor from local racetracks to Assiniboine Downs. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and a cherished grandfather and great grandfather.

George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn, son Garth (Nancy), daughter Laurie Parobec (Harvey), son Leslie (Brenda Rinneberg), daughter Glenis Simms, daughter Ila Simms (Doug Green), his sisters Edith Graham and Ruth McDonald (Lorne) and sisters-in-law Betty Simms, Joyce Simms and Stella Klym, grandchildren Kelly (Shannon), Kirk (Jodi), Michelle, Michael (Andie), Clayton (Melissa), Tyler, and great grandchildren Taye, Olivia, Carter, Mekhi, Kam, Avery, Owen, Macy, Jaden, Mason, Nixon, and Brooks.

He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Edna Simms, his three brothers Clarence, Ray and Lyle, his sister-in-law Arlene Simms, brother-in-law Rodney Graham, and great granddaughter Ava Parobec.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024,

at 2:00 p.m. from the Foxwarren Community Chapel, Foxwarren.

A reception will follow at the Foxwarren Arena.
