In loving memory of Gordon Albert de Vries
After a long battle with cancer, Gordon went to rest on January 14, 2021 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was born on August 23, 1958 to his parents Harry and Sybil deVries. The eldest of 5 children, Gordon grew up on a farm outside of Saltcoats. Gordon is survived by three siblings: Cathy, Neil, and Glenn. His sister, Violet, passed on from cancer on May 2, 1997.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Sandra de Vries. Gord celebrated 40 years of marriage with the love of his life this past August. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Tara, Ryan and Nicole. Tara delivered two grandsons, Sam and Nathan, to which Gordon spent as much time as he could bringing them to Canada or visiting them in the United States.
Gordon has been a pinnacle part of the community Langenburg since arriving in 1977 and spent his days working within his passions: farming and mechanics. He began his career working for his aunt and uncle, Bob and Dorothy Reitenbach, at their GMC dealership. He was their first employee and started off as a gas jockey. He moved into the parts department and eventually migrated into mechanics. His dedication and natural skill resulted in a strong reputation as the town’s top mechanic. Gordon was fortunate enough to continue in his other childhood passion, farming and worked alongside his best friend, Roland Schappert, for 25 years.
He was a devoted member of the community and was known for his reliability and loyalty. From volunteering at town events to his time serving as a volunteer firefighter, many people knew they could trust Gordon to always be there. He was generous with his time and was always willing and able to help anyone who needed him. Gordon was kind and welcoming to family, friends and acquaintances alike and his loss will be felt by many.
Gordon’s family will give him the memorial he deserves once the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
