Gwen was born in Swift Current, Alberta to her parents, Maryanne Kaye and John Kaye. Gwen was the eldest of her siblings Lloyd, Barry, and sister Crystal. Gwen’s early years were spent growing up in Calgary with the remainder in Regina. She grew up within her parents’ Christian home – Gwen found comfort in Christianity throughout her life. She graduated from High School in 1988 in Regina; following in the footsteps of her mother, she pursued a career in the nursing profession. Gwen graduated from SIAST with her nursing degree 1994 in Regina. On her graduation day, she received confirmation she was pregnant. Gwen gave birth to her one and only child in 1995 – Nathaniel. Gwen practiced nursing in Regina, and over the course of the following four years she came to terms with becoming a single mom. In 1999, Gwen met her husband Curtis Bunn in Regina – the connection between them was immediate – they became a family with Nathaniel as their sole child. Gwen and Curtis’ relationship spanned a full 26 years as of May 2025. The bond between them remained strong and vibrant through to Gwen’s last breath.
During her 26 years of life with Curtis, she, Curtis and Nathaniel moved to Manitoba in 2006. They stayed in Birtle for 3 years, then Gwen, Curtis and Nathaniel moved in to Birdtail. Gwen was employed for 10 years with the Birdtail Health Centre; first as a BFI Coordinator and then as a community health nurse in the Home and Community Care Program. She worked there until 2019. She left work due to serious medical conditions with the intention to return to work as she recovered. On January 30, 2025, Gwen and Curtis suffered the sudden unexpected passing of Nathaniel – their only child. Gwen’s health worsened in 2025 and she remained ill until her passing.
Over the course of her 16 years of living in Birdtail, Gwen had a very happy time in Birdtail. Gwen met her expansive in-laws. She was very close with Curtis’ entire family. Gwen had a calm demeanor with a beautiful disarming smile – she was gentle, intelligent, very articulate she enjoyed talking with people, and she carried herself in professionally gracious manner at all times. She made friends with her co-workers; she enjoyed the people she met in Birdtail and was so respectful of everyone. Gwen was well received and respected by the community members. She will be greatly missed by all.
Gwen is predeceased by her sole child, her son Nathaniel, her mother Maryanne, her brothers Lloyd and Barry and other relatives and her father and mother in-law – Thelma and Victor Branth, sisters-in-law Veronica, Shelley, Rena, Sherry and brother’s-in-law Victor and Tyrone. She is survived by her husband Curtis, her father John, and her sister Crystal and her sisters-in-law Victoria Branth and Whisper Bunn and brothers-in-law Clayton, Herman and Carson.
Gwen and Curtis were wonderfully very family-oriented, they kept close with their families Gwen will be greatly missed by her father John and by her sister Crystal and by her many aunts and uncles. Gwen and Curtis were a beautiful couple – Curtis will dearly miss Gwen, and he will always remember her and Curtis will always love her. Rest in Peace Gwen.
