Harry Ernest Miller was born January 9, 1943 in Russell, Manitoba and lived his whole life on the family farm north of Binscarth. Harry passed away in his home August 9, 2024 at the age of 81.
He farmed with his brother Percy on a mixed grain/cattle farm. Where Percy was, Harry was not too far away.
Harry enjoyed his dancing, and most weekends was square dancing, social dancing or round dancing. He was proficient in those many intricate steps but “wasn’t much for that line dancing”.
He also had a keen interest in cattle showing and 4-H clubs, being a leader for many years. He reminisced about going via train to the Toronto Royal with Larry Glasman Co, almost missing the call to reboard at a stop in Ontario being side-tracked down the street at a bar. He traveled across Canada and the States showing cattle.
Harry was a dedicated Lions member for many years and enjoyed the fellowship with all the members. He took pride in all the many activities of the Binscarth Club.
Harry loved to visit, play cards, play pool, and was a regular at the coffee shop.
He had a wealth of knowledge in history, and common sense prevailed. Extravagance and throwing away things that were useful was outrageous to him, so nothing was ever thrown away, and kept “just in case”.
He never professed to be any kind of cook as Percy always did and had great difficulty with that after Percy went into care. His many friends and neighbours brought his meals which he appreciated so much, enabling him to remain at home.
For some reason, he hated the color red and mentioned “don’t ever bring me a red shirt”.
Brother Percy passed away in December 2023 (Only seven months ago) and Harry missed him greatly, leaving a large void in his life. They grew up together being only 1 year apart, they socialized in the community together and farmed side by side.
Harry received his wish to die at home, as he was never going to go to the care home with the old people.
Harry is survived by many cousins and their families on his mother’s side, The Barker family of Binscarth and cousins and families of The Millers from Burford, Ontario.
Rest in Peace “Slim”.
