Harvey Switzer Obituary

The family of Harvey Switzer are saddened to share the news of his unexpected passing on March 6, 2024, at his home in Roblin, MB.

Harv was born September 30, 1940, to Raymond and Ola Switzer in Russell, MB. He was raised on the family homestead along with a younger sister, Iona.

At a young age, Harv became an entrepreneur helping his father with the growing hatchery business, the custom seed cleaning plant and raising his own piglets to market. He showed a keen interest in coin collecting and later in life as an amateur photographer, becoming the man behind the camera.

After graduation from Goose Lake High School, he furthered his education by attending Red River College, completing his automotive training, and paying his rent and tuition by selling farm fresh eggs door to door that his father shipped by train to him until the time of receiving his diploma. He found employment in a Winnipeg auto shop and then another in Roblin after moving back to the farm.

Purchasing land for himself in 1963, he started his farming career. Finding enjoyment working with his father, they worked together for a number of years. Harv would later acquire more land and expand on his growing farm.

He met the love of his life on a blind date and married his wife Lil on June 29, 1968.  Together they had six children. The two enjoyed farming and singing duets. Many Sunday afternoons were spent in the company of friends and family. And large holiday gatherings were joyous events.

One notable highlight of his life was when he had the chance to acquire an irrigation system which became an asset to his farm. It was the talk of the town, and he felt quite privileged to have had the opportunity.

In 1995, Harv entered semi retirement, renting out his land to neighbouring farmers, and with an interest in money management became self taught in mutual funds and the stock market. With more free time, Harv could plan month long trips traveling with Lil in the US and Canada with the motorhome.

 Their retirement years were spent travelling on distant trips to faraway places such as Hawaii, Jerusalem, Mexico, Alaska, PEI, and they also took a Mediterranean cruise. These trips made unforgettable memories.

Harv is predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Lillian Switzer, and his daughter, Cori.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters;

Lori (Rob) and grandchildren, Megan and Darian,
