Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 19th, James Russell (Jim) Hamilton passed away at the Russell Health Center with loving members of his family by his side. Jim was born on July 20, 1922 on the home farm 6 miles west of Foxwarren, the youngest son of John Wilson Hamilton and Winifred (Pizzey) Hamilton. He attended school in Foxwarren and the University of Manitoba where he received his Diploma in Agriculture. He then began farming with his Dad and continued this passion well into his senior years. In 1948 he married his beautiful wife, Edith May (Mickey) Moxham. Together they farmed and raised a family of 4. Early in his farming career, Jim became involved in seed production and became a select seed grower. He was a member of the Canadian Seed Growers Association where he received their highest honour, the Robertson Associate Award. Jim was a leader in all of the following organizations: Boy Scouts, 4-H and Hunter Safety. He was Rector’s Warden of the Anglican Church in Foxwarren, and a director of the UGG board.
Anyone who knew Jim was well aware of his passion for collecting (coins, old tractors, aboriginal artifacts, radios and the list goes on) Reading was high on his list of pleasures as were fishing, hunting, playing cards, sharing stories and simply spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 plus years: Mickey Hamilton in January 2009. He leaves to mourn his children Russ (Barb), Frank (Elaine), Betty (Dale) and Jo-Anne (John), 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A private, family graveside service was held at Zion Cemetery on May 30, 2020.
The family would like to thank the hard working and professional staff of Prairie Mountain Health ( Brandon, Rivers, Shoal Lake and Russell)
