It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Tanner (née Coleman), aged 78. Joan passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, in Rossburn, Manitoba. Joan was born on April 17, 1947, in Luton, England, where she grew up in a bustling household as one of eight children. In 1970, she moved to Canada, first settling in Thunder Bay, Ontario, before making Manitoba her home, where she spent the remainder of her life. Joan had a lively presence and a quick laugh, bringing warmth and unmistakable energy to any gathering. She loved keeping her hands busy with cross stitch, needlepoint, and knitting—creative hobbies she enjoyed for many years. She is survived by her loving husband, Nelson Tanner; her sons, Michael and Bryan Galbraith; her daughter, Heather Melder, and step-daughter Cheryl Tanner; and her cherished grandchildren: Kendra, Rylan, Jayden, Melissa, Justin, Niklas, and June. Joan was truly one of a kind in the best possible way. She had a wonderful sense of humour and treasured time spent with family. She especially enjoyed spending weekends with Karen Galbraith before her passing, and later shared a special bond with Kendra, who visited one weekend each month. Together, they enjoyed tea on the deck, lunches at Choy’s, and time spent in Russell. Joan will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and deeply loving woman whose presence will be greatly missed. A private service was held on December 21st, 2025.
