Joseph Scherloski Obituary

Please note----Due to inclement weather, this service has been changed. See the new times and dates below.

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph John Scherloski. With his family by his side, he passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Esterhazy at the age of 93. Joe was born on May 24th, 1932, on the homestead, 7 miles north of Gerald.  Joe was the eldest of 6 children born to Joseph & Josephine (nee Twardzik) Scherlowski. Joe attended Evertton school until grade 8. That was then he decided to farm with his dad and become a caretaker of the land.

Joe met the love of his life Winnie (nee Yunker) and were married in 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Gerald. They lived on the same yard with Joe’s parents for seven years before purchasing the Lonoway farm 9 miles south of Langenburg where he remained until his passing. Joe and Winnie were blessed with four children, Joan, Kenneth, Judy, and Robert.

Joe and Winnie led a busy farm life operating a mixed grain and cattle farm. Joe’s love for cattle started at an incredibly early age. His dream was to own registered purebred Horned Herefords that he could raise and travel throughout the province to show.

That dream was fulfilled. There was not a show that he did not come home with a banner, trophy, or ribbon. Joe’s other love was for his horses. He had two sets of Belgium horses that pulled the stone boat to feed the cattle in the winter. Joe, along with Winnie and his two sons continued to raise the three hundred head of cattle until 2020 when he made the difficult decision to sell the herd. Joe continued farming and harvested his last crop in 2024.

Through the years Joe and Winnie took the time to travel to Las Vegas, Denver, Victoria, Ottawa, Niagara Falls and Sarnia to visit his brother Ludwig and wife Judy.

Joe’s faith in God was strong. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus which he served for 62 yrs. He served on the Saskatchewan Pool committee and was a member of the Saskatchewan Hereford Association for many years.

Joe lived life to the fullest. He lived to work and worked to live. His love for the land was immense. Joe lived a humble, simple life but full of purpose, dignity, patience, integrity, and strength. He never once complained of getting old. He faced many of life challenges as they came. He was the friend / neighbor that everyone looked up to. He would give his shirt off his back to anyone that came for a lending hand. Joe touched many lives and left a huge impression on many from near and far.

Joe loved his family and treasured his children, grand-children, and great grandchildren.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, brother Stanley, sisters Melvina and Adele.

Joe leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory; his loving wife of 67 years Winnie, children Joan (Rodney) Krochak, Kenneth (Marcy) Scherloski, Judy (Dwight) Miller, and Robert (Doranda) Scherloski.

His treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Melissa Krochak, Ashley (Kelly) Hadlee, Weston Naduriak, Michael (Kaylee) Adysen, Chloe Miller, Marc Miller, Chantal (Jacob) Asher, Blair, Gracyn Funk, Grant (Kendra) Zander, Saylen Scherloski, Holly (Jacob) Dalton Dube, Stephen Scherloski, Myla and Nate Scherloski. His brother Ludwig (Judy) Scherlowski, sister Jeanette (Wayne) Adams, brothers-in-law Erwin (Sheila) Yunker, Henri Bohemier, sisters-in-law Irene Scherloski, Wilma (Warren) Earnshaw, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joes’ legacy will live on in his family. He leaves behind lessons that will outlive all of us, to be patient, to be grateful, to stay grounded, and to remember that some of the most important things in life grow slowly. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched but never forgotten.

May you rest in peace and may the fields you walk now be forever golden.
