Kathleen Falloon Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathy Falloon of Russell, April 20, 2023 at the Russell Health Centre at the age of 82.

Kathy was born in Toronto August 8, 1940, the eldest daughter of Charlie and Marion Brackner. She and her sister Elizabeth grew up in Toronto. When Kathy completed her schooling at Riverdale Collegiate she took a 2 year course at Toronto Teachers College.

During that time Kathy travelled west to visit her Mother, a widow, who had re-married to Wilbur Wilson and resided in Russell. While visiting, Kathy met the love of her life, Dale Falloon. In 1961 she completed her course and moved west, taking a position teaching grade 3 in Birtle. Kathy and Dale were married in October of 1962 and she moved onto the farm west of Foxwarren. Kathy adapted well to farm life, raising their two children, Heather and Scott; running meals to the field, hauling grain and chasing cows. She grew a huge garden, canning, picking berries and making preserves.  Kathy returned to work in 1968 teaching language arts to grades 5-9 for 12 years at Foxwarren School. After the sudden passing of Dale in 1983, she remained on the farm and continued until 1990, at which time she moved into Foxwarren.

Kathy loved to sing and dance, having taken voice lessons in  her younger years. Her creative talents were put to use sewing, crocheting and creating ceramics, among many other crafts. Most recently she spent many hours creating keepsake scrapbooks for her family. Kathy was a talented cook and baker. She prepared meals for countless family celebrations. Kathy was well known for her fruitcake, Christmas pudding and shortbread at the many Christmas markets she attended. She also decorated many cakes for local celebrations including both her children’s wedding cakes.

Kathy was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Toronto, the United Church in Foxwarren and finally, the Anglican Church in Russell. She also participated in Explorers, CGIT, and was a member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association for many years serving a term as Most Worshipful Grand Mistress of Canada. This position led to her travelling throughout Canada making many lifelong friends.

Kathy was well known for her generous spirit. She could always be counted on to help anyone in need, often putting her needs last. Family was always most important to Kathy. She was fiercely proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She eagerly looked forward to every opportunity she had to spend time with them all. The birth of  her great grand-daughter in 2021 filled her with joy.

Kathy was pre-deceased by her parents Charlie Brackner, Marion and Wilbur Wilson; husband Dale Falloon, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Tom Dorey. She was also pre-deceased by her in-laws, Edith and Murray Wilson, Dean and Jean Falloon, Murray Falloon and Bill Murray.

She leaves to mourn her children Heather (Les) Ferris, Scott (Lesia) Falloon; her grandchildren William (Angela) Ferris, Karen  Ferris (Dave Larkins), Shalyn Falloon (Daniel Sullivan) and Brayden Falloon; her great grand-daughter Abigail Ferris; her sisters-in-law Margaret Murray and Elsie Falloon as well  as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
