Kathy Dixon Obituary

Katherine Louisa Dixon passed peacefully in a room filled with love April 24, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Kathy was surrounded by the family she dedicated her life to, the family who regarded her as their loving and guiding center.

Katherine Louisa Sheridan’s life began on February 20, 1954 in Bowmanville Ontario. Her parents John and Louise Sheridan moved their large family to a humble 2 story home in Waubamik, Ontario where the family continued to grow to 11 children. Kathy adopted her admirable work ethic as a child as she tended to the large garden, animals and chickens that sustained the family. When the work was done, they had each other as playmates with hours spent on the toboggan hill in winter, and swimming and fishing in the summer. Kathy attended a one room schoolhouse that housed 8 grades until it’s closing in 1966 at which point she transferred to McDougall school before moving on to High school in Parry Sound.

As the eldest of 3 daughters, Kathy spent many hours in the kitchen. It is here she found her passion for cooking and built her skills into her life’s work. Cooking was Kathy’s love language as she doted on her family with her many traditional family recipes. Holidays were her favourite, especially Christmas, where she would spend weeks preparing treats to spoil her family.

Kathy gained employment at the Big Wheel Restaurant at the age of 18. It was here she met the love of her life Dan Dixon. They wed the same year December 5th, 1972. The couple welcomed 3 daughters into their family Janet, Connie and Tina. Kathy thrived as a mother with her nurturing and loving spirit.

The Dixon family bought their first home in Marchwell where they found their community. Kathy was heavily involved with all of the organizations that kept the community vibrant. When the family outgrew the Marchwell home they relocated to an acreage 10 Kms north. Kathy took great pride in keeping her acres of grass neatly cut and feeding the birds she loved.

When a lease opportunity became available, Kathy and friend Paula Orth opened Kapa Cafe in Langenburg. A labour of love that served as a great place for lunch, but also a space where support was given generously. Kathy finished her work life retiring from the Russell Health Center as a Dietary Aid.

Kathy loved life and lived it with purpose, prioritizing her people ahead of material possessions. Her smile and happy nature was infectious, her generosity and kindness will be forever missed. She was most happy when watching sports, crocheting, baking, fishing, and spending time at the lake in her camper. Her most joyful moments were spent sharing time with her Grandchildren following and cheering them on in their chosen activities.

Kathy leaves to mourn her devoted husband Dan, loving daughters Janet, Connie (Tyrell Digness) Tina (Kevin Koustrup) and her 10 adoring grandchildren Logan, James, Kasen (Adam Garnett) McKenna, Cache, Katelyn, Georgia, Mackenzie, Ryder, and Trace. Kathy had a unique and meaningful relationship with each of her Grandchildren. Kathy’s true calling was to be a grandmother and she will leave a legacy of dedication and love to them all. Kathy’s surviving siblings are Dale (Sharon), Stanley (Connie) Richard (Judy), Annie, Russell (Kim) Alfred (Lynne) and Guy. Brother in laws Jim (Karen) Dixon, Kathy (Bill) Kosowan, Wendy (Gary) Stephens Bob (Carol) Dixon. Predeceased by brothers Carl, Joe and sister Stacy, brother-in-law John as well as her parents John and Louise Sheridan and mother and father-in-law Janyce and Bernard Dixon. Kathy will be mourned and greatly missed by many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 8th at 3:00 Sk time 10 km north of Marchwell at the Dixon acreage.
