Lavone Unverricht of Langenburg, SK, passed away June 12, 2023 at Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home at the age of 95.
Margaret Lavone Unverricht (nee Machell) was born November 14, 1927, in Hamilton, ON. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, attending services both in the Lutheran and other neighboring churches where her family lived in Jarvis and Fisherville, ON. A very intelligent child, she skipped a grade in school. After graduating grade 13, she worked in an accounting firm for a year before attending Nursing School in Hamilton where she graduated as an RN in 1949.
Lavone came west to practice nursing and to be closer to her sister, Inez. It was in Grenfell where she met Ralph, a handsome farmer whose brother Gilbert was married to Inez. Lavone and Ralph married in a quiet ceremony on December 10, 1952, and in the next six years had three daughters.
They lived on the farm outside Grenfell, before moving to Lemberg. Ralph’s career as a clerk, then as manager for CO-OP grocery stores took him back to Grenfell, then Bethune and Hudson Bay. In 1973 they moved back to Grenfell where they purchased Mitchell's Trailer Park and Campground. It is here where they became active members of their community and Peace Lutheran Church until 2010 when they made the move to Langenburg.
Lavone was a faithful and devoted supporter of Dad's work and many projects. She was an avid sewer, kept a vegetable garden in every backyard where they lived and another on someone's farm. She budgeted, made use of everything, and never wasted which allowed us as a family to go on camping trips every summer seeing our incredible country from Vancouver Island, the Rocky Mountains, through the United States or over the Canadian Shield to her family in Ontario.
A very private person, Lavone was modest, kind, and worked quietly, seemingly tirelessly, and rarely complained. She was humble, and very frugal but extremely generous with her time, money, and talents. Lavone moved around quietly and unassumingly, touching many lives with her thoughtfulness, generosity, and care. She never worked fast but every job was done to perfection.
In the many communities they lived, Lavone served as church organist and was an active member of the LWML. At home Lavone and Ralph welcomed foster children into their home for many years.
After Ralph’s death in 2012, mom continued to live in their suite until 2022. In August of that year she became a resident of the Langenburg Centennial Care Home.
Faith and devotion to God and her family were both deep seeded loves in her life. After a fall on May 28, 2023, Lavone could not regain her strength and left us early Monday, June 12 to meet her Savior.
Lavone was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, and his siblings Corda, Gilbert, Leona, Paula, Freddie, and Penny. Also, her siblings William, Marjory, Glen, and granddaughter Kristy.
Surviving are her daughters Linda (Dennis Prime), Debbie Beinert, and Edie (Darrel Lowenberger), 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister Inez Herman and sister-in-law Elsie Machell, many nieces, and nephews.
