Margaret Burla Obituary

***DUE TO WEATHER AND ROAD CLOSURES, THE SERVICE FOR THE LATE MARGARET BURLA WILL BE POSTPONED TO THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 2026 AT 10:00 A.M.***

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaret Burla announce her passing at the Roblin District Health Centre on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the age of 87.

Margaret was the first of four children born to Jessie and George Lungal in the Boulton Municipality on August 6, 1938. Margaret attended school in the Blue Wing district while helping on the farm. Even as a child Margaret took on many adult responsibilities in her life on the farm.

When Margaret decided to leave the farm, she went to work in Snow Lake, Manitoba and Souix Narrows, Ontario before coming back home where she met her husband to be, Peter Burla. She married Peter on July 19, 1959 in the St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church in Lennard with a reception at Peter’s parents’ farm. Margaret and Peter made their home in Dauphin for a period of time before coming back to farm the Burla homestead in 1961.

Margaret’s life on the farm was filled with hard work, laughter, large family gatherings, and huge gardens. Margaret’s kitchen was always welcoming for anyone stopping in for a visit, a cup of tea and the most delicious food. As the family grew with the blessing of five children, the house may have grown louder but for Margaret it was not the volume but the warmth of family.

The years went by and in 1998, Margaret and Peter moved into Roblin to begin their retirement years. Margaret did not understand the meaning of retirement as she continued to have a large garden, two freezers full of food, a large well-trimmed yard with beautiful flowers, and of course the welcoming kitchen with the never-ending amazing food.  Margaret is renowned for her cabbage (rice) rolls. Every family event had to include her cabbage rolls. But when asked, it was her paska, borscht, perogies, and all the favourite desserts each grandchild and great grandchild loved. Margaret’s food and her warm caring nature drew everyone to her. She was like sunshine and when you walked in through her door you knew you were the very person she wanted to see. And when you were leaving you would have containers of food to take with you. It was like a gift that kept on giving.

Margaret was not only kind to everyone she came in contact with but she gave her time to organizations that she knew made a difference. She was the President on the Ladies Club at St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox church for many years and she was on the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, husband Peter (2017); brother Edward Lungal (2016); and grand-son Wyatt Bauereiss (2021).

Margaret will be remembered and sadly missed by her five children, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and siblings:

Barbara (Layton) Bezan; Brett Bezan; Carter Bezan (Carmen), Lincoln, Acelyn, Shiloh, and River; Morgan (Rick) Belliveau, Knox and Kane; and Kirby Bezan.
