Mary-Lou is predeceased by her grandson Zeke; older brother Richard, and parents Fred & Yvonne. Mary-Lou was the 6th child of nine children. When she was younger, she lived at the “old shack” until they moved to the homestead which still is there today.
Mary-Lou was always competitive. In school she always got straight A’s. because she was always studying. One year as a summer project along with myself, we wrote a book called “The people of the Sash” for the Metis. This was a great accomplishment she always took pride in. Once she was out of school, she joined the “Canadian Armed Forces”, where she was a flight attendant. She often spoke of the many places she went to in the world. We were always proud of our Metis Veteran.
When she got out of the Military, along with her dad they found a place in the country in Binscarth. A few years later she married Mark, and they had 3 children: Scarlet, Jesse & Josh. When the children went to school, she had such beautiful Christmas and Halloween outfits for the kids, people were impressed/ She put many hours of sowing and decorating there; the school ended up purchasing some of the outfits because they were so beautiful. When Mary-Lou divorced, she purchased a house in Birtle until her passing.
Some of the things Mary-Lou enjoyed was entering in the farmer’s market in Birtle which she entered her baking, sowing, garden foods, and her flower arrangements from her garden, and she got many 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. She took pride in every win as every year was a welcoming challenge.
Mary-Lou worked at the Co-op store until her passing. She took so much pride in her work, always ready to help her valued customers and told them of the best sales that were available.
Mary-Lou lost her battle to cancer. She was surrounded by her family when she took her last breath. It broke our hearts to see her suffer so much. Now she’s at peace, and there will always be a missing link here on earth. Until we meet again. We will miss you.
She is survived by her daughter Scarlet (Scott) and grandchildren Ryker & Declan; Sons Jessie (Ashley) and Josh.
