Mary Luba Obituary

Mary passed away on Sunday, July 18th at Morley House care home in Shoal Lake at the age of 97.

Mary lived a fruitful, and happy life. She was born on December 6th, 1923, in Marco district near Rossburn to parents Nick and Anne Chomica.

Mary was the third youngest of a family of six children. She was raised on the farm and attended Ruska Rawa school.

Those were different and difficult times where people struggled and worked hard to earn a living. Although Mary loved going to school, she was needed at home and had to quit school at an early age to help on the farm. She hoped to become a hairdresser one day but never had a chance to fulfill her dream.

Mary never complained but instead found contentment contributing to her family. She helped with gardening, washing, and cooking. She became a good housekeeper and an excellent cook, and never regretted the path that her life had taken.

In 1946 she married William Mazur. They live in Angusville where they farmed and owned a restaurant where Mary’s cooking experience really came in handy.

Mary had a special creativity and talent for making things. Her hobby was sewing, crocheting, and quilting.  She especially looked forward to Easter as this was the time of year she created her hand-painted Easter eggs.

In 1951 they were blessed with their one son David. Mary and William were happily married for 32 years when William unexpectedly passed away in 1978.

Mary remained a widow for 9 ½ years. She then decided to marry again and in 1987 married Paul Luba. They lived in Russell and enjoyed their life together for 13 ½ years until Paul passed.

The church was very important to Mary. She was an active member of the St. Mary’s church and attended masses faithfully. Mary was a positive, cheerful, and happy person who always did her best to help others whenever and however she could. She always made friends and family welcome in her home and was quick to prepare a meal for unexpected guests at any time.

She was a kindhearted spirit and always worked hard, she loved her garden and always planted more than she could use, so she could share fruits of her garden with her family, friends, and neighbors.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving son David, daughter-in-law Sherry, granddaughter Devon and great-grandson Tyree as well as great-granddaughter Cyanne. She will also be missed by her in-laws and many nieces and nephews whom she cared about and loved.

Mary was preceded in death by her immediate family, father and mother Nick and Anne Chomica, sisters Nettie and Mabel and her brothers Mike, Bill and Morris Chomica

Family and friends were the most important thing in Mary’s life and they all had a special place in her heart. In keeping with her wishes, Mary has asked that you remember her as you found her in life, a loving person who cared for all. She has asked us to pray for her on her journey to heaven. May she be granted eternal life in God’s kingdom.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
