It is with heavy hearts , that we announce after a great morning of visiting at Maurice’s home on Saturday November 13,2021, Maurice put his coat on and his boots on walked outside got into the vehicle and passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Maurice was born in Yankee Valley, Parkside SK. Maurice grew up on the family farm in Foxdale, started school at Rich Valley then finished his education in Foxdale leaving home at 14 years old to start his life. Maurice owned and operated his own Mink Ranch at Clarke Lake, he built a cabin, and commercial fished to feed his minks setting nets on Dore Lake and Great Slave Lake. Maurice trucked hauling pulp at Montreal Lake with his brother.
Maurice worked for Potz’s Construction building the Airport in Uranium city. Potz’s Construction then moved down to Oak Lake, Manitoba building the railbed. The construction crew moved to the Spy Hill area building the Railbed in 1958.
He married Louise Cowan on July 02,1960.
Maurice worked for the R.M. of Langenburg and then in 1967 Maurice started his road construction business, Maurice Miller Construction.
Maurice passed on the torch in 1994 to his son Dwight, changing the name to DJ Miller & Sons. Maurice continued to work .
Maurice enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with family & friends. He loved being up north and near Thunderhill.
On December 31, 1977 he married Barbara Jean Cozens.
Maurice enjoyed going on trips to Hawaii, Barbados, Las Vegas and Florida making lots of fun memories.
Maurice would go camping and on holidays with his sister & her husband and family .
Maurice liked playing pool, dancing and country music .
Maurice leaves to cherish his memory; wife Jean Miller, children Jeanine & John, Maryett & Ken, Dwight & Judy, Richard & Racquel, Laureen & Jeff, grandchildren Aaron & Keri, Curtis & Trevor, Jason & Jody, Chad & Tricia, Brent & Pam, Jenessa, Alice & Phillip, Jesse & Melissa, Jayda & Shaun, Michael & Kaylee, Marc, Justine & Jarrett, Paighton, Morgan, Brandon, Cameron, great grandchildren Taylor, Skylar, Hailey, Aiden, Austin, Katie, Kadan, Cohen, Kiah, Ava, Destin, Caiden, Rylan, Adysen, Noah, Caysen, his sister Bertha Ernst, along with many numerous nieces & nephews, relatives and good friends.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents Alice & Henry Miller, his step-father Olaf Tindal, his in-laws Wellwood & Jean Cowan, Kaye Giroux, his brothers Archie & Elmer, Rolland (infancy), his sister Elsie, brothers-in-law Bruce Cowan, Rolland Nordby, Howard Ernst, Bob Giroux, sisters-in-laws Shirley Miller Barlow, Betty Schnell, nephews Stanley & Clarence Ernst.
Maurice was a strong willed determined man. He was a straight shooter & called a Spade, a Spade.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and everyone whose lives he touched.
