Mona Roset Obituary

Henrietta Mona Roset (Letkeman), known as Mona, passed away peacefully in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, on June 16, 2021, at the age of 89 years old.

Mona was born on February 6, 1932, near Herbert, Saskatchewan. She was the eldest of ten children.  She married Alf Roset on September 25, 1949, and they were blessed with two sons – Lynn and Roald (Ron). Her heart was broken when she lost her dear son Lynn to cancer in 1986.

Mona’s family meant everything to her. Whenever you visited with her, you could count on her telling you stories and showing you pictures of her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She always talked so lovingly of her parents and growing up in a big family. She knew the true meaning of unconditional love – and everyone who was loved by her felt it too.

Her playful spirit and loving nature made her the best grandma. She loved playing with her grandchildren – whether it was Chinese checkers, dominos, Aggravation or Balderdash – she was game for anything. She was an exceptional baker, and if she knew something was your favourite, she   always had it ready when you came to visit. Her grandkids remember her famous peanut-butter and syrup sandwiches, crab-apple juice, full candy dishes, fritters and cupcakes with sprinkles (for Chrissy).

She was a devoted Christian, and committed member of her church community. She shared her love of Jesus with her grandkids, taking them to church services. And she always brought her playful spirit, making sure to have Chicklets on hand to share with them during the service.

Throughout her life, Mona loved to listen to music, and her love of music is shared by her family. She reminisced often of listening to her dad play the fiddle, and even when she was in the late stages of dementia, you could still see her love of music.

Mona was predeceased by her son, Lynn Roset, her parents, Jacob and Sarah Letkeman, and her sisters Edna, Elma, E.J. and Verna. She is survived by her husband, Alf Roset, daughter-in-law, Linda Roset, son Ron Roset, brothers Norman, Ken, Richard and Stanley, sisters Irma and Viola,   grandchildren Sheldon Roset (Jennifer), Shane Roset (Jill), Chrissy Weber (Ian), Christina Button, Sabrina Snell, Scott Roset, and Joseph Roset as well as her great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation to the staff at the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, for taking such good care of Mona.
