Muriel Walter Obituary

On May 1, 2021 at the Roblin Personal Care Home, Muriel slipped away into eternal rest with her daughters at her side after a short battle with cancer.

Muriel Winnifred Iva Bestward was born February 16, 1937 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan to John and Effie (nee Rhodes) Bestward. She was the youngest of four and the only daughter.

Muriel Bestward met Adolph Walter while he was farming at Imperial. They were united in marriage on October 1, 1953. After a few years, they moved to Punnichey where they raised their family, later moving to Jedbeurgh. They then moved to the Russell area where they farmed. In 1996 they returned to the town of Russell.  In 2020 due to declining health Muriel moved into the Roblin Care Home and remained there until her passing. During Muriel and Adolph’s life they enjoyed raising their children and teaching them the farm life. They enjoyed travelling to B.C., sight see and visit with family and friends. They would pick fruit for canning for the kids and themselves to enjoy. They camped, travelled and entertained family. Muriel’s green thumb and talent for cooking and baking kept everyone full. She passed on her recipes and secrets for canning and baked goods. She always had a meal for anyone that dropped in.

Muriel is predeceased by her husband Adolph in 2016, grandsons: Shaun in 2013 and Adam in 1989, her parents: John and Effie Bestward, brothers: Brian and Lawrence Bestward, sister’s-in-law Lorena Bestward and Janice Bestward, brother’s-in-law: Harry Walter and Charles Mason.

Muriel leaves to mourn, her daughters: Jeanette (Bernard) Guenther, Linda (Dwight) Swimmer, Susan Walter and Kim Walter, grandchildren: Frank, Christina, Harvey, Anthony, Chelsey, Seth, Zachary, Shawnica, Troy, Shane, Hayden and Lucas, great-grandchildren: Abby, Nora, Thaxter, Dryden and Dawson, her only brother John Bestward of Dawson Creek, B.C., brother’s-in-law Steve (Margaret), John (Irene), Arnold (Lynda), Richard (Becky), Greg (Shirly), sister’s-in-law: Constance Mason, Lenora (Ray), Karen Walter and Darlene Walter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
