Neil David Schappert of Denver, Colorado passed away May 18, 2022 at 109 Guest Lodge Motel, Minot, North Dakota at the age of 58 years.
Neil was born November 16, 1963 in Edmonton, Alberta at the Royal Alex Hospital, the youngest son of David and Joan Schappert. He was baptised and later confirmed in the United Church of Canada.
At age three, the family moved to Langenburg where he received his formal education. After high school he went to work in the oil fields. He was employed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Arctic and on drilling platforms in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Neil was then hired in an executive position in Houston, Texas. Following this he moved to Denver, Colorado to become operations director for a larger part of the U.S. with Cathedral Drilling. After a few years, he and his wife decided to change course and opened a bar and restaurant in Orange Beach, Alabama. Their next venture was becoming professional long distance drivers as a team for a contractor with FedEx. They travelled through every state delivering mail and parcels.
Neil was a very generous, caring father, son and brother. He was on his way home to his parent’s place in Canada. Enroute, he checked into a motel in Minot where he passed away from natural causes. He will be dearly missed by many.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Anton and Vera Schappert and Jim and Gertrude Veal.
Neil is survived by his wife Misty; son Mitchell; stepson Zack; daughters Bailey Kulcsar, Kim Rusnak, and Mason Schappert; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are parents, Dave and Joan Schappert and brothers, Warren (Karen), Dean (Marie) and their families.
