Pauline Elizabeth Sudbury (Zimmer, Dietrich) age 99, was born on July 21, 1926, at Grayson, Sk., the second youngest daughter of Appolonia Exner and Joseph Zimmer. Pauline was the last surviving sibling from a family of fifteen children. Pauline passed peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the Russell Personal Care Home.
Pauline and her siblings received their schooling in Arlington, Sk. Although she was more fluent in German than English, she enjoyed school and hoped to become a nurse one day. Due to the drought in the early 1930’s, the family packed up and moved in search of more productive farmland. They moved to Strathclair, Mb, and farmed there for another ten years. After her mother passed, her father once again packed up and moved his family to Dropmore, where they continued to farm.
On October 18, 1948, Pauline married Paul Dietrich who farmed three miles from her home. Pauline loved babies and Paul loved kids, and together they were blessed with seven children. All the nine family members names began with the letter ‘P’. For 37 years Paul and Pauline farmed together, working hard to provide for their family. Dad adored Mom and was proud to help her when he could.
Mom & Dad had a wonderful, loving union. They were a fun-loving couple who enjoyed family gatherings, dancing, travelling, and spending time with friends. Mom made our home a place filled with love, laughter, learning, and a positive outlook.
Mom was an excellent seamstress. She had an eye for fashion and an ability to design and sew clothes for us kids simply by looking at a picture in the Eaton’s catalogue. Mom baked, cooked, made preserves from her large garden, raised chickens, milked cows, and did all the chores needed on a farm.
On November 7, 1985, Paul passed suddenly. Pauline continued to look after the farm before choosing to sell it and move to Russell.
On September 26, 1987, Mom married Ernest Sudbury who was a kind and patient man. Ernie was a devoted husband, and Mom was an excellent cook and baker for the bachelor she fell in love with. Ernie did the gardening, berry picking and Mom did the canning. They were a compatible couple, enjoying dancing and playing cards with friends and neighbors
Surviving to carry on all the loving memories of our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma ‘Pauline’ are…
