Pearl Kendel Obituary

Pearl Ida Christina Kendel (Mund) passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 31, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

Pearl was born December 24, 1931 to Fredrick and Pearl (Berger) Mund. She was the second child of three having two brother, David and Kenneth.

Pearl was baptized May 22, 1936 and confirmed on April 21, 1946 at Christ Lutheran. Her confirmation verse was from Psalm 37, Verse 4 – Delight yourself in the Lord and he shall give you the desires of your heart.

Pearl lived on a farm 4 miles north of Langenburg. Pearl and David started school together in 1938 at Hohenlohe School. They walked or took their horse Jerry. One story she told us was when she had to take Jerry and the wagon to school by herself, she had the drinking water on the wagon that they supplied everyday. The trip to school was good but coming home she was going to fast and ran into the corner of the fence and broke the wheel and she had to unhitch the horse and she got on Jerry to ride him home. He wouldn’t go any faster, so she got off him and walked him home. Her dad had to go back and fix the wagon.

Pearl’s family always called her Tootsie, so when she went to school the teacher asked her name and she didn’t know it. Her brother David had to tell them. She said he was always looking out for her. Jerry was such a good horse but when her Dad let him out to rest, he took off to the school instead and they had to go get him.

Pearl met her handsome man Paul Kendel and was happily married on September 22, 1950, enjoying 67 years before Dad’s passing. They raised three children; Maxine, Paul and Dean and very much enjoyed their grandchildren Colin, Tyler, Trisha & Justin, Tara & Jason, Travis & Andrea, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They raised Galloway Cattle and showed them at the Royal Fair in Toronto and Regina Agribition.

Pearl was always a hard worker and enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and sewing needlework. She taught 4-H, belonged to Ladies Aide and was secretary until the closing of Hoffenthal Church and Church Extension with Dad for 20 years. After selling the farm in 1990 they moved to Langenburg. She enjoyed travelling, with her favorite trip being to Alaska.

The couple moved into the Senior Housing in 2013 and then into Southview in 2014 where mom still resided until October of 2022 when she was moved to the Care Home and lived under the very caring and loving staff, and before that with the love and support of all the Home Care Staff (We Thank You).

Pearl being very clear to the end, we enjoyed lots of stories, laughs and love while visiting with her and her brother Kenneth Mund, who also gave her great joy to be able to spend her last days with him and reminisce.

We will miss her love, encouragement, understanding and concern for all of her family. She leaves us with many happy memories and one outstanding example of living. She was truly the best. We all love you.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
