Percy Edward Miller was born in Russell on April 25, 1944 and passed away on December 30, 2023 at the Russell Personal Care Home at the age of 79 years.
Percy grew up on the family farm north of Binscarth with brother Harry, just 1 year older. They farmed with their dad on a mixed grain and cattle farm till their dad’s passing, then took over the farm. Percy and Harry took care of their mom with the assistance of home care, after suffering a stroke until her passing at the Personal Care Home.
Percy became the cook, and carried out other household chores while Harry did the yardwork. Harry still confesses he’s not much for cooking, Percy just always did it. They farmed together, socialized together and if you met Percy anywhere, “Slim” was close by. They reminisced many times on the good old days.
Percy was a loyal Binscarth Lion’s member for many years, involved with Foxwarren Stock Show and auctioneering many sales. He enjoyed curling and great times had at bonspiels. He later supported the Binscarth Curling Rink as a spectator, and bench coach. He was also a great fan and supporter of the Binscarth Orioles. Percy was also involved in the Binscarth Riding Club, enjoying many trail rides. Percy was an excellent welder and mechanic, fixing his own machinery as well as friends and neighbors. He had a great garden and canned lots of produce.
With failing health and a stroke in December of 2022, Percy spent the last year in Melita & Shoal Lake Care Homes, and had been in Russell Personal Care Home since September of 2023.
Percy is survived by his brother Harry, many cousins on his mother’s side, the Barker family and cousins from Ontario.
