Rita Mullin Obituary

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba.

It is with peaceful hearts we announce the gentle passing of our mom, Rita Mullin (nee Marion) on March 25, 2025, at the age of 94 Years.

She was predeceased by her love, Glenn (March 2013), one month after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary!

Mom will be remembered with love by her children and their families; Gary (Tannis), Judy (Doug Duke), Donna (Eddie Lundstrom), Sally (Murray Donald), Merle (Peter Mertins); 12 grandchildren and their spouses and 15 great-grandchildren, also 3 remaining siblings, Jeannette, Lucette (Fern) & Huguette; many, many nieces & nephews and many dear friends.

She was born November 25, 1930 on the family farm in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba to Simeon & Rose-Anna Marion. She had thirteen siblings – Yes…13! Mom helped on the farm and helped older siblings with their children. She loved babies! It was while she was helping her sister Benny with her children that she met Glenn at one of the famous dances on McKenzie Island! They married in 1953 and built a good life in Balmertown, Ont., raising their five children, working and volunteering in the community. Mom bowled, was on the CWL, gave out the “Phone Bingo” numbers, loved to chat on the phone, filleted so many fish, sewed countless costumes and clothes, and helped others the best she could. She was a stay-at-home mom who made the best buns, fish in the batter, peanut butter cookies and banana cake.

All the while, she hummed a tune or sang a song, especially Que sera, sera! Mom enjoyed the garden; tomatoes and multiplier onions were favorites! She picked, pickled, and canned everything. Waste not, want not.

When Dad’s work years were done, they moved to Mom’s hometown St. Jean Baptiste. They enjoyed visiting, sharing jokes, a good country drive and a great cup of coffee together, for 26 years of retirement!

We believe she’s embracing Dad again and he is probably saying…”C’mon Speedy, Let’s go for Coffee!”

The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Birtle Sunnyside Manor for their loving, compassionate care.
