On December 7, 2025, Robert Doubleday passed away at the age of 88 surrounded by family.
Robert Thomas Doubleday was born in Winnipeg on April 7, 1937. He was raised on the family farm in the Solsgirth area and attended Ekford School.
He enjoyed dancing and while attending a dance in Rossburn he met the love of his life, Elizabeth. They were married in August 1955. Children soon followed and after working for several trucking companies, he took a position with Russell Transfer and moved the family.
Dad retired from trucking and after working at the Gulf Station and as a janitor at Major Pratt School, he was hired at IMC K2 in Esterhazy.
On his days off he and mom enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with their growing family, and visits with friends. He also helped with driving school bus and harvesting with local farmers. After mom’s passing in 1999, Dad retired from IMC.
Dad met Bertha and they became retirement companions. He had someone to share camping and fishing with again. They spent summers at Lake of the Prairies and winters in Texas. Health issues started to keep them in Canada. They spent time at Evergreen Club playing cards and enjoying time with friends. They made trips to visit family and celebrate the milestones of graduations, marriages and new additions.
Dad knew many people and we were always amazed at the connection. Sometimes it was someone he knew, a shared acquaintance, place or business. There was always a story to share.
Dad will be missed by Bertha and his children Doreen Slack, Wayne (Bev), Lisa (Rod) Howes, Richard (Lavona), and Andrea. Nine grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Forsyth, Ricky (Vanessa) Slack, Jeremy (Vanessa) Slack, Scott (Angie) Doubleday, Trisha (Scott) Stykalo, Tara (Derrick) Hebert, Stepheny Doubleday, Christy (Tyler) Roberts, Shayne (Amber) Doubleday. Fifteen great grandchildren Deanna, Grayson, Max, Maci, Molly, Kade, Zander, Odin, Lucas, Wells, Klara, Reese, Briggs, Nathan, Jaime, and two great-great grandchildren Taven and Zayla. Also Bertha's three sons, Darren, Chip (Gaylene) and Brent (Cindy) and their families.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, son in law Murray Slack, brother Raymond Doubleday, and great grandson Miller Roberts.
