Ronald "Ron" Stanley Wilson

 Ronald Stanley Wilson passed away June 22, 2026, at Selkirk Regional Hospital. He was 93 years old.

Ron was born on January 15, 1933, in Minnedosa to Violet (Broome) and Rowley “Calvert” Wilson. He was lovingly called “BUD” by his family and school friends. He was the youngest of 5.

He attended school in Minnedosa. He was a rink rat and a great hockey player. He spent many summers getting into mischief with his cousin Allan Broome.

In April 1951, following with family tradition, Ron enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was 18 years old and chose the Royal Canadian Navy because he wanted to see the world and serve in Korea. He attended basic training in Cornwallis N.S. at CFB Stadacona. In October 1951 he boarded HMCS Ontario traveling through the Panama Canel to CFB Esquimalt in Victoria B.C . Once there, Ron attended a tactical gunner weapons-related course. On October 1952 aboard the Tribal class destroyer HMCS Athabascan Ron departed for Korea arriving November 1952. The Athabascan returned to CFB Esquimalt December 1953. As a Gunner Ron was responsible for surveillance, target acquisition, loading, aiming and firing a variety of small and heavy-duty weapons with the objective to interrupt and destroy North Korea rail supply lines. He suffered hearing loss from this post.

Ron and Irene met on a blind date in the summer of 1955. In April 1956, amid a spring snowstorm they were married. That summer (August) they moved to Victoria B.C where Ron was stationed at the Naval Base. There, they had two of their three daughters, Ronda and Karen. In 1960 the family moved to Winnipeg where Ron worked as a recruiter for the Navy. A few years after returning to Winnipeg their third daughter Brenda was born.

Ron retired from the Navy after 10 years of service in March 1961.

While in Winnipeg, Ron worked at Nutty Club Candy Company for a short time as well as driving cab. He worked for the City of Winnipeg as a bus driver for 10 years. Finally, after 10 years with Manitoba Highways Department as a Driver

Examiner he retired. In the fall of 1993 Ron and Irene relocated to Binscarth where he was active for several years with The Binscarth Lions.

Ron was a warm, humble, generous man. He never judged and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He was a great sport, always up for whatever was going on, never complaining, except about the bugs! He even challenged himself at age 70 to ride his bike in the MS 150! He was a great listener, a peacekeeper, a deep thinker and only offered his opinion if asked. He had a great sense of humour, a quick wit, a warm smile and a perfect hug. He liked his loud music and was a great whistler. He talked to everyone he ran into and always offered a welcoming handshake. He was a sharp dresser and loved blue shirts. He enjoyed the sun and the beach, with Cabo being his favourite spot. His door was aways open for a hot meal, a bed, a game of cribbage, a drink of rum or a beer. What a guy! A true Gentleman.

Ron is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Irene, his parents Vi and Cal, his siblings Marjorie Boyd, Fred Wilson, Cliff Wilson, Joyce Graham, his niece Marlene Scott, his brothers-in-law Bill Boyd and Jack Graham and his sisters in law Eileen Wilson and Alyce Wilson.

Ron is survived by his daughters Ronda (Jorgen Frandsen), Karen (Grant Barrett) and Brenda (Jim Tuckett).

Grandchildren: Ryan (Chelsi) Frandsen, Erik (Kristin) Frandsen, Evan Frandsen, Lisa Barrett (Mike Usarewicz), Blaine (Brittany) Barrett, Sydnee Tuckett (Kevin Stitt), Jodi (Walker Brown), Levi Tuckett, Caleb (Courtney) Tuckett, Hannah (Matthew) Stevenson, Julia Tuckett and Emma (Wyatt) Hadaller.

Great grandchildren: Cole and Chase Frandsen, Sam Barrett and Gabrielle Usarewicz, Lenix and Paige Barrett, Lillian Brown and Miles Tuckett.

His nephews Terry Boyd, Calvert Wilson and nieces Diane Boyd, Connie Riddell, and Sandra Graham.

The Boucher family was always special and important to him. He is survived by Rosalie, George (Thelma), Bob, Wilf (Shirlene), Corrine (Rene), Pat, Jim

(Corrie), Annette (John), Cathy (Gerry), Anna (Bill) and many, many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by Joe and Agnes, Albert, Sherry and Stanley Drielich, Harry, Elmer, Don Sutherland, Val, Ursel, Marion, Fran and Annette.

He is finally with his love, Irene.
