It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruben Edwin Weinheimer, our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa. Ruben passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023, at the Esterhazy Centennial Care Home.
Ruben was born on May 4, 1937, south of Langenburg, as the eldest of ten children to Rudolf and Hulda Weinheimer. He attended Union Hill School and, upon finishing, he worked for various farmers in the district, on water drilling rigs, and briefly on an oil rig. Ruben then spent 39 years at I.M.C. Esterhazy as a Miner Operator before retiring in 2002.
On July 23, 1966, Ruben married Margaret Schulz from Churchbridge, and they cherished 57 years of marriage before his passing. Together, they had two children: Marla (born in May 1967) and Wayne (born in November 1969). The family has lived in the same Langenburg home since 1976, a place that was very dear to Ruben. He would often sit outside at the table, savouring a good cigar and enjoying the chirping of birds and the sounds of the swimming pool in the summer.
Ruben and Margaret loved their Sunday drives, camping trips to Good Spirit and Madge Lake, and coffee outings in town — often accompanied by an ice cream cone. Ruben also had a passion for attending many auctions and garage sales, where he would collect antiques and other treasures.
Among Ruben's cherished memories were the times spent playing cards and games with family and friends. These gatherings were filled with laughter and warmth. Always eager and enthusiastic, Ruben was willing to learn new games introduced by his grandson, Quinn.
He was a dedicated supporter of the local senior hockey team and took pleasure in attending the games of his nephews and great-nephews until his health prevented him from doing so.
Ruben was predeceased by his mother, Hulda (1980); father, Rudolf (1991); brothers, Kenneth (1995), Edgar (2012), and Bruno (2014); sisters, Adela (2000) and Lorraine (2018); sisters-in-law, Carol (2008) and Phylis (2015); and brothers-in-law, Leo (2001) and Bert (2017).
He leaves behind loving memories with his wife, Margaret; children, Marla (Chad) and Wayne (Natasha); and grandson, Quinn. Ruben's memory will also live on through his brothers Denis (Audrey), Allan (Brenda), Jim (Susan); sister, Gloria; sister-in-law, Linda; brother-in-law, Ellis; and many nephews and nieces.
